I used to use a fire stick on all my TVs for pretty much the same reason you stated as far as consistency. I upgraded my theater to an Apple TV and realized how much better it was. I then started swapping out the fire sticks with Apple and it’s been great. My favorite feature that you didn’t mention is that anyone in the house can use a phone as a remote so there is no need to look for or ask someone for the remote.

I treated myself to an Apple TV 4K for Christmas, my first Apple product, and I have grown to love it. The UI is ad free, super sharp and the screensavers are beautiful. I also noticed straight away the upgrade in picture and sound quality, Apple's own shows in particular are simply the best quality I have ever seen from streaming. Physical media is still the king for quality but Apple's own shows on the Apple Tv 4K are really good, noticeably better than Disney plus to my eyes.

I love my Apple TV 4ks, one for my media room and one for the bedroom. I just wish it had Bitstreaming over HDMI for audio out.

Thank you, for sharing your top six (6) reasons that, you use an Apple TV 4K streaming box. For myself, I use a Roku Ultra $99 (US) on my main TV and, I use a Roku Ultra LT $79 (US) on my secondary TV. For years, this set-up has worked great for many of the reasons you stated in this video (simple set-up, same interface, same controllers, etc.). Another thing, I enjoy about my Roku boxes is that they also, help you track and terminate trial streaming subscriptions (smile...smile).

Agree with all points, the only exception for me will be Bravia Core which you can only get on Sony (with free credits) Have yet to get the A95L but apart from firmware updates & B.C it will never be connected, my use case is specific obviously but that’s the only exception I’m prepared to make. Everything else is ATV4K all the way, had it a few years now and it definitely tookm y my budget HIsense into the mid-range as far as quality output goes (video & audio!)
  • 100% with you on this bro! I bought the LG OLED C2 and immediately got the 3rd Gen Apple TV 4K to go with it - it's perfect! I just couldn't get used to the LG remote - a nightmare to work in a dark movie room. Also, since tvOS 17.2 my iTunes 'Extras' button/tab doesn't show on the screen anymore. Do you still have it on yours? The only way for me to access Extras is to go into the store and click on the title and then scroll to the bottom where extras is. Very bizarre. Just checked and the Extras tab is no longer on the latest Mac OS BUT it's still there on my iPhone 14 Pro on iOS 17.2.1

Nice video. I wanted real perspective as to why you genuinely want the external box. I felt your first point was strongest Personally i use LGs native apps. I like the speed, ease of use, and picture quality

Apple TV 4K is an excellent streaming box, but I’ve had to stop using mine because there is so much lip sync delay when watching HDR content :( It doesn’t happen on any of my other streaming boxes.
  • @henriklind1734
Totally agree. I have 4 of them (latest generation). Wish they would support digital pass-through, then my aging NVIDIA shield could be retired.
  • @markh8921
I agree with you on using a ext device to do your streaming...we use Roku's 4k Ultra HDR media device...the main reason we use the Roku is because I'm able to change the movie format/zoom in to full screen to get rid of the black bars that you will see on the top and bottom of movies.. you can't do that with the apps on the tv...so that way I can see everything on my 98" Samsung 4k tv...

ATV 4K should be a mandatory add on purchase when plenty of us are already spending 3-5 grand on premium TVs.
  • @Mokeygodo
I’m an Apple ecosystem guy but I use the Nvidia box because it’s the only streaming box that can pass thru Dolby Atmos 7.1 from rips on Plex and infuse. Apple won’t allow this on its devices even though technically possible since it wants everyone to buy atmos movies from it.
  • @outpost3178
Is there any way of controlling playback of Apple Music via the 4K tv box without the need of having tv display on? Would you be able to use iPad or iPhone to navigate playback of Apple Music app?
  • @1BSDjunkie
I like using the YouTubeTV app on my smart TV instead of Apple TV 4K. I use the AppleTV for everything else. I like smart TV app for YouTubeTV as it doesn’t flicker and ‘refresh’ or change resolutions between shows as much.

I think Apple TV is definitely the best streamer. I do recommend having access to another platform, whether it be the internal OS or Firestick or Roku as well. The reason to have something else as well is that often streaming services aren’t consistent with their content from device to device. For example, the Fox Sports app on the Apple TV does not support HDR while it is supported on Android and Firestick. Despite the program info on the Amazon show Reacher saying it offers 4K Dolby Vision, many episodes on the Apple TV are only showing in SDR while I get 4K Dolby Vision on Android TV and Firestick. This was an issue with the Rings of Power series as well. Another example is that Peacock does not support match content on the Apple TV. So for any 4K Dolby Vision content you either have to force DV settings on the Apple TV or just get the automatic DV on Android TV or the Firestick. Regardless, for pretty much everything else the AppleTV is the best device, and its gigabit Ethernet connection is nice to have as well.
  • I would love to see the steaming details available on the 4K+ boxes. I have used Roku for Years but when I bought my first Apple 4K+ last year, I noticed a huge difference between a Roku Ultra and the Apple . I now have 4 of them !!
  • @fl3shgordon
I think the other reason to consider using an Apple TV vs built in TV apps is how they view the value of and use your watch data. TV manufacturers sell your watch history, Apple does not.
  • @ed_ms
I use my 2 Apple TV 4K boxes for all my streaming services and even regular cable tv watching. Those things never fail and having everything in 1 place using only 1 remote is perfect. Not cheap, but not too expensive neither. I love my Apple TV 4K's.
  • @bsd107
All I wanted to know is whether an Apple TV 4K will give better video and/or audio quality than the streaming apps available on the LG OLEDS (e.g. like your G2). That is all that would matter to me…. I always wondered if LG, for example, makes sure that the video quality optimizes for their panels
  • @zachg9065
I had chrome casts for a while, the base ones without the remote then switched to the remote one, apple TV is 10x better, recently switched tool apple TV.
