A musical interpretation of all Tolkien's songs from The Hobbit, born out of the desire to know what the tunes to the songs were when reading the book, aged 8. When I was a bit older, I started to record what would be some of my earliest musical creations. When I was a bit older than that, I had the excuse to finish them all as part of an assignment during my teacher training. Vocals were hurriedly recorded in one session and so needed a bit of re-singing. Except for the goblins, of course.
To make this more of a musical audiobook rather than an album, the lyrics are unabridged and the music written to work around them, down to the last 'fl la!'
Hopefully, when you read The Hobbit, you'll come up with your own tunes - as I'm sure J.R.R. Tolkien intended - but if you fancy hearing what another reader heard in their head, here you go.

Lyrics by J.R.R.Tolkien and taken from The Hobbit.
Artwork by Peter Mitchell.
Music written by JB between 2006 and 2011.
Music and vocals performed by JB in 2011 and completed in 2019.
Recorded and mixed by JB, except vocals on tracks 2, 5, 6 & 8 which were recorded by Nathan Greaves at Middlesbrough College.
Mastered by Edward Simpson.

This song has such a lovely sense of finality, perfect final song for the story.
  • I used this playlist while reading the book, this is the first time me reading The Hobbit and your songs enhanced the experience Thank you 😺
  • It actually sounds like the song in the book; in fact its more or less how I heard it in my head when reading the book, many times. I want this poem read at my funeral (hopefully many years away) maybe I'll have this sung version, instead. XX
