I trained Shotokan Karate as a kid until I couldn't give it more time at around 20, but I never understood one thing... Karate is all about strong, deep and rooted stances with straight linear movements, emphasizing on core balance but then it's Kumite time and they're jumping around like an epileptic kid on a seizure.
  • Congratulations 🎉. Sister 💓. Always support from India 🇮🇳

I met a 6 Dan Shotokan Karate teacher and he would visit the country and grade the students and take class. It was about 42 years ago I asked him to sum up Karate. He said Technique, Focus and Control. I understand that the different areas like Okinawa and mainland Japan are varied in Kumite style and it is a deep stance as opposed to a higher body stance I understand that you do not know how good your style is, is when you kumite against another style. The rest is who can pinpoint the other's defense and then counter attack. a bit of advice. To all girls and women out there. Never carry anything like a purse or bag in your dominant hand. Because if attacked you need your dominant hand to defend and counter attack. To lay that person out.
  • Now karate people fight like taekwondo, taekwondo fight like fencing and fencing jump like hurdle vaulters

Timeless classic match: China vs Japan karate. Love it
  • I skipped through this and when i stopped, every time it was a picture of two “Fighters” bouncing up and down ……..No this is NOT KARATE KUMITE!! I practised GOJU RYU for 40 + years and this is totally alien rubbish !
  • @MagDiSante
I'm sorry BUT this is NOT Karate ... The two girls are excellent athletes, let's be clear BUT martial art is something else! Unfortunately, the sporting drift has led to this... fortunately there are still schools that spread Karate as a martial art and I hope they continue!

And it keeps getting worse and worse, just like what Olympic fencing did to western swordsmanship.

The video thing - we should do that in Judo too. This is the first time I am watcing a Karate championship. Judo has a lot to learn from them (in terms of tech stuff)

We in Asean always Admire and Respect Japanese Contestants. They Play and Fight With Intensity and Fairness. They do not Cheat nor are they Sour Grapes. Well Done!
  • Mucho griterio, repiqueteo y poca acción o muetra de habilidades marciales. Es mi percepcion. Saludos

It's more like a bunny hop contests! How about real fighting until one is out cold?
