  • This makes me sad. I lost a good friend due to heroin overdose and now my sister is suffering personality changes from it. I am a recovering alcoholic I am so glad and Blessed I never tried it or I would be in the same boat. Love and prayers to all fighting you can do it!
  • This is why we need to rehabilitate people. Not tell them they need to fix themselves. You are your brain. There is no piece of the brain where “you” are. That’s the deeper truth. Who “you” are is a complete construct you’ve created over the course of your life. People need psylocibin, LSD. Meditation. They need pathways out of their existing lives to recreate themselves

Without brain analysis from before he ever took drugs, who is to say that it is the drugs that have caused this data? Could this not have been Tyler’s reality since birth? perhaps the drug use is a symptom of a bigger, older, underlying condition.

I’m watching this without the other parts of Tyler’s segment so I don’t have full history, but if Tyler achieves sobriety for a few years, will the brain repair itself or is this permanent damage? When I was in college, we watched a film on drug abuse and how methadone can rewire the brain. Is that permanent damage as well?
  • Sometimes people just want to feel good. Stop moralizing it all. If one dies, one dies.

How do we know that Tyler didn’t suffer from ADHD beforehand? ADHD is an developmental impairment of the executive functioning part that controls impulses, emotions, planning, and memory. An extremely common trait of people with ADHD is seeking out pleasure due to a lack of dopamine in their brains. This would mean it is not uncommon for a person with ADHD to indulge in hard drugs. Half of all adults with untreated ADHD will develop a drug addiction in their lifetime. It is possible that heroin would have made the underlying conditions worse, but it is inaccurate to assume there was no impairment beforehand and understanding and identifying this early could have prevented a long road of addiction and recovery.
