Strong zonal jet streak over southern Europe combined with Mediterranean moisture led to a multi day severe weather outbreak over Northern Italy.

Here, 2000j/kg of CAPE, 50kts of deep layer shear and strongly curved hodographs allowed for some pretty powerful elevated supercells to develop along a stationary front during the night.

This supercell and a few others in the area dropped some truly gigantic hail, locally over 10cm in diameter, as well as putting on a brilliant light show.
