Backpacking to Rare Desert Waters-Salt Creek and Cottonwood Canyon #hiking

Published 2023-04-08
In this video Brian and I spend some time exploring the Salt Creek and Cottonwood Canyon areas near Mt. Laguna and Anza Borrego State Park. We take a shortcut to the desert floor that was use by Native Americans and cattleman to travel back and forth between the mountains and desert.

Sometime in the 1950’s the route near Salt Creek was turned into a dirt road. It’s long since been maintained and as severely rutted as well as overgrown.

The seasonal creeks were flowing tremendously from all the rain and snow we received this season. It was a great trip.

  • Wow Brad, great video, great adventure. Amazing how much water there is right now. Enjoyed seeing all the relics and remains of structures out there. Cool trip!
  • Really really great job on this one Brad. Liked that you did more talking, shared some of the history, loved that stone house and man I always wonder how they got those water tanks out there back in the day. Crazy how much water is flowing out there right now. Really enjoyed that thank you!

That looks like my kind of trip. This area has been on my list for a while. So great you could make it out while it’s so green and with so much water.

A really well done production. I felt like I was there. Really nice to see Anza so green and lush. Since you stole all of our PNW rain this winter you get to enjoy it....lol😂
