To mark Ncuti Gatwa’s debut season, I decided to look back at each Doctor’s first adventure. In the first part of this two-part retrospective, I’ll be assessing the debut stories of the Classic Series (1963-89, 1996), covering each actor’s debut from William Hartnell’s first appearance in ‘An Unearthly Child’ to Paul McGann’s starring role in the 1996 TV movie.

An Unearthly Child - 01:42
The Power of the Daleks - 06:01
Spearhead from Space - 09:58
Robot - 13:12
Castrovalva - 16:13
The Twin Dilemma - 19:14
Time and the Rani - 24:40
Doctor Who - 29:13
Conclusion - 34:04

The Doctor stepping out of the smoking TARDIS with a little cough is an underplayed but brilliantly funny bit.
  • "Doctor! You've changed again!" "OH NO, NOT AGAIN!" "No, not your appearance, your outfit." Possibly not an exact quote but this exchange between the brigadier and the fourth Doctor cracks me up every time I watch it.

I love An Unearthly Child, for me, it is the best introduction of The Doctor followed by Spearhead from Space
  • @dwfan91-
Great video! Can't wait for Part 2, my favourite opener has to be Power of the Daleks but Spearhead from Space and Robot are right behind
  • @metodej91
This is an criminally underrated channel. Another banger video, will be looking forward to part two.

"Doctor what happened?" "Change, my dear. And it appears not a moment too soon." Colin Baker wasn't ny favorite Doctor but i love that introduction
  • @New-tu3mn
Tom Baker has the best introduction. Not because he had the best first episode story, which he didn’t, but because his winning charisma, charm and rightness for the role were immediately evident. He won you over as the Doctor within 5-minutes. All of the other new Doctors took a number of episodes before you warmed to them. The next shortest time was probably David Tenant, who took until his 2nd episode for me.

The Doctor seems to never have a non-Traumatic regeneration in the classic series. Troughton's story downplays it, but it's still there.

Fake fan? Bruh; you’ve got more passion for Doctor WHO than many have in general. You’re a true soul er fan a true fan.
  • @langleymneely
Excellent video! You just gained a new subscriber! You deserve far more viewers and subscribers! Can’t wait to see the next part!❤️👍🏾
  • I was at the same scarborough panel! Was absolutely amazing, and it made Colin Baker instantly one of my favorite doctors, his audios are amazing!
  • @jackthefrog80085
My favourite one is Capaldi's story but I think in many ways, Pertwee's story is very similar
  • @firedneavada
Great video, id love to see the reverse of this. Having a look through the regeneration stories for each doctor
  • @ManiBatchelor
Brilliant video!! For the classic era I'm stuck between spearhead from space and power of the daleks, both bloody brilliant. Also W Peep show
