Aquaman is the first DCEU movie since Man of Steel to have properly, consistently functioned from beginning to end. Even though the movie is big and can at times become a bit muddled to some, it always works, because of a simple yet highly important three-step character building choice made by the filmmakers. In today's episode of Film Perfection, let's see what that three-step process is.

Aquaman did make bank at the box office and seemed to have pleased a big part of the audiences. Interesting to see how the DCEU will go on from here. I swore not to see any of these movies in theatres again after Justice League, but I wonder if sun is in the horizon. The Joker movie, Matt Reeves' The Batman, James Gunns' The Suicide Squad, interesting to see what happens with them. I guess Shazam plays an important role in showing if DC Warner Brothers movies have become a bit more consistent. I heard they revealed an Aquaman Trench movie too. That Trench scene in Aquaman was intriguing to say the least. Although I will miss Ben Affleck's Batman and Henry Cavill's Superman. Except now Superman should be in Black Adam.

I think casting Jason as aqua man was an important choice. He already has a hardy sailor asthetic but he’s also charming and passionate. He turns aqua man from “oh it’s fish boy” to “YOOOO ITS FUCKING FISH BOY”

Amber Heard's character is bland and forgettable? Surprising, I've heard she's more than capable of leaving a mark...
  • You could literally remove Amber Heard from this movie and nobody would even realize she was missing.
  • @pamelap3343
They acted like mera just had to be there as a love interest. She was all over the place with no personal story, journey or motivation. We didn't know her at all.

One thing that hit me more than anything else about this movie: it has COLOR. This was the first time I had watched a DC film and actually LIKED the cinematography of the film.
  • @azraelbatosi
Considering all the jokes, I was monumentally impressed that they found a way to make talking to fish pretty awesome.

100% agreed on Mera. I found her to just be the "obligatory love interest" who's main goal is to look sexy instead of actually being an interesting character adding into the story. Definitely the weakest part of the movie which is a shame since it otherwise had such great characters and did so many things right.

In hindsight Nicole Kidman's character aged like Nicole Kidman

"My name is Black Manta. You killed my father. Prepare to die."

I feel Wonder Woman's ending is the result of the studio interfering with the director's vision. Aquaman seems to have been left alone in that regard.
  • My father was a lighthouse keeper. My mother was a queen. They were never meant to meet. But their love saved the world. They made me what I am: a son of the land, a king of the seas. I am the protector of the deep. I am... Aquaman Goosebumps!
  • My favourite small element of Aquaman is how hard Orm is trying to radiate superiority to Arthur during the scene in the throne room. The armor, the cape, the way he slowly drifts down from above, even the way he talks; it's all just him flexing, and I love it.
  • I love how you properly mentioned every characters' names-- but Willem Dafoe is just Willem Dafoe.

Aquaman: "Hi, fish!" Fish: "Hi, Aquaman!" Aquaman: "Have you seen anything unusual...under the water?" Fish: ". . . Hi, Aquaman!"
  • @delshi13
I want to see Aquaman bc of Jason Momoa, but haven't watched it yet bc of Amber Heard.
  • @ebaugh7320
You can easily tell Jason Momoa was having a lot of fun while acting. He doesn't get enough credit for how he CRUSHED it at Aquaman
  • It never occurred to me that the ending of Wonder Woman legitimately throws away the entire message of the movie.

shazam was great too...i admit it was very child friendly but i freaking loved it but it touched upon themes of family and how family is not the one we are born into but the ones we choose...i hope people give shazam some love too

Emilia Clark would actually be a great Mera. She can actually bring charisma to the character and her and momoa already have great chemistry
