But are Americans ready for a female president? A new YouGov poll says 54% of them are. That's down from 63% nine years ago, after Hillary Clinton announced she was running.
Kamala Harris does seem to be energising young voters though, as Kiran Moodley found out on a Rust Belt road trip across Pennsylvania, Ohio and Indiana.

It's a mirror of what happened in New Zealand. Jacinda Ardern was deputy Labour leader when a few months before the 2017 general election the party realised it was likely to lose. So Ardern got the leader role out of desperation. The media was thrilled to finally have someone in the race who wasn't an old man, so she got all the attention. That gave her the boost she needed to win, but because the election was so close, she didn't get as much of the scrutiny. Kamala is in a similar position. At the moment she's the star. That won't last, but there may not be enough time for the Republicans to chip away at her popularity.
