The Northrop (later Northrop Grumman) B-2 Spirit, also known as the Stealth Bomber, is an American heavy strategic bomber, featuring low observable stealth technology designed for penetrating dense anti-aircraft defenses. Designed during the Cold War, it is a flying wing design with a crew of two.

The bomber is subsonic and can deploy both conventional and thermonuclear weapons, such as up to eighty 500-pound class Mk 82 JDAM GPS-guided bombs, or sixteen 2,400-pound B83 nuclear bombs. The B-2 is the only acknowledged aircraft that can carry large air-to-surface standoff weapons in a stealth configuration.

  • I laugh at the thought of a couple Russian radar operators puzzled at what the perceive to be as a small bird flying over 630 mph.

Dare I say the B2 looks just as good on the ground as it does in the air. Incredible design.
  • My father worked for Lockheed and at one point he was tasked with "running some tests" on the B-2. He said he would stand there for a long time, just staring at it. At one point he needed to walk across the wing. He worked in aerospace for 33+ years and had done that on dozens and dozens of aircraft. He said walking the wing and tail of the C5-A was the scariest one. But when he crossed the B-+2 wing he got goose bumps and shivered. There was no sound made between the ships skin and the protective boots he wore. He said it seemed to give a little... almost like walking on a living animal. If anyone doubts the US's world leadership in inspiring it's people to be and do their best, I can only shrug and nod my head toward a picture of a B-2, or SR-71.
  • I remember reading a story about the development process, and Jack Northrop was there when it took it's maiden flight. Following years of controversy and negative press after the failed YB-49 project, finally seeing his design take flight, he said "Now I know why God has kept me alive this long." The technology finally caught up to help manage this advanced platform, and he got to see his vision become still the most advanced bomber in the fleet. Jack Northrop, Kelly Johnson, and very few others share a special place keeping this country at the top of the list for innovation and invention. Northrop's vision truly was 50 years ahead of its time, and I'm happy he got to see it fly in his lifetime. An inspiration to many.
  • My grandfather was on the original design team for the sr71 and got moved to the b2 bomber program. He has a bunch of signed pictures of the test campaign and he was proud of the end result

i’ve been to several air shows and even when you know its coming, most viewing angles from the ground, make it seem almost invisible even on clear days.

I’ve seen one of these on accident flying up above. Just by happenstance since I’m always looking up. It was certainly an extremely rare event. Super cool.

I saw one of these at an airshow. They are spooky quiet on approach. I could hear it once it was overhead, but that's a bit of a moot point since if it passed a target, said target is probably a crater or at least having a horrible time.
  • I’ve seen these things flying low overhead. Weirdly, when looking directly at it from behind it literally disappeared. Could hear it, but could no longer tell where it was.

The B-2 Spirit Bomber is one very amazing aircraft with all of its stealth capability and bomber capability. It had one draw back, it cost a lot money to build and to maintain and operate. As a result only about 20 of these bombers were built.

As an air force radar tech when a f117 (stealth fighter which is really a small bomber)was coming in for an air show we got on a scope to see how good the stealth was. When we turned off the transponder info we couldn’t see where it was at till it landed!!! B2 is even better!
  • @dantovey2785
I love this aircraft, the capabilities it has and the hard work that went into creating it. Its simply stunning
  • @ThomasLee123
THANK YOU for not adding 15 minutes of aircraft movies at the end of the presentation just to fool us into watch longer videos and get higher YouTube ratings. Yours is now the only Military video to which I subscribe though I love this genre.
  • @DrKnow-ye6rv
Failed to mention that it now carries 200 small-diameter Glide bombs that are precision-guided. Could saturate an entire Battlefield with a single pass. Ref Stormbreaker.
  • @rodgerhecht3623
Proud to have worked on this plane for over 30 years in flight test. It is a truly amazing jet...glad it's on our side.
  • @Jfarhan1990
It changes mode when it enters heavily defended air space. WOW!That is amazing!
  • @msa4548
This is what's public information. Imagine what they have now that's still classified.
  • American Air Force with SR71, b2 , X 15 the list goes on are of ground breaking technologies and gives goose bumbs. Im just in awe of them
  • Saw one of these suckers as we were driving through Missouri. Massive and awesome. It was just flying in circles. It looks like a giant kite, which obviously isn't harmless. If I'm the enemy and I'm seeing this giant kite, I am hiding.
  • @jayyoutube8790
Such an amazing machine. Just seeing it in the air is incredible.
