On Rishi Sunak he told Iain Dale:
"I thought that he was somebody who was very, very confident in argument. So you could see that in the debate last night. He's very good at arguing. And I as a minister when I was trying to convince him of something, we'd often get in these very long arguments and he's very good at that kind of debating.
But I never felt that he had the kind of big sense of who he was and where he stood on the really big issues .I wasn't completely convinced on where he stood on Brexit. I couldn't understand why he endorsed Boris Johnson so quickly, except because he wanted to get a fast track into the cabinet.
It's very understandable that many other people I joined Parliament with were like that -Matt Hancock Priti Patel had a bit of that going on as well.
I think in a way to survive as Prime Minister, he needed to have a sense of who he was and who his values were.
His biggest chance. I still think as if he'd come in and said, ‘I'm distancing myself from Liz Truss, Boris Johnson. I'm going to vote on this privileges committee report. This is a disgrace. This is a new direction. I'm changing things’. He might have had hope in this election."

I wouldnt call PPE minor corruption, I wouldnt call the binning of the russia report minor corruption, I wouldnt call partying in lockdown minor corruption.

Spot on Rory. If Sunak had made clear from the outset he was distancing himself from the previous numpties and had stressed a record of recovering some stability and competence, he might have stood a chance in the election. As it is, he’s just another Tory leader who is out of touch and in the game only for themselves. There is not a shred of public service evident anywhere in this Government and people up and down the country are sick to the teeth with all of them.

I am a long term Labour Party member, but have great respect for Rory Stewart. An impressive man and politician in a party with too few people with anything like his ability and integrity.
-
Dale - Talking about "minor corruption" ???!! Delusional
-
Rory Stewart, a bit too honest to be a successful politician.
-
Dale's "latest" attempts at running as a Tory, lasted 19 hours, before he was handed his own backside😂😂😂😂
-
The problem is the Tories are only interested in themselves and their own and not EVERYONE.
-
Rory Stewart. The best PM the Tories never had.
-
Mr Stewart may not know what the Conservative Party has become. To find out he can simply ask the rest of us.
-
Rory basically has too much integrity to be a politician .
-
Rory Stewart, the best Prime Minster we never had
-
The tories are rotting in their own corruption and arrogance
-
Dale really is up his own backside…
-
Rory is decent man lost his way as a Tory but would be asset to a other decent party.
-
'MINOR corruption?' 🤣
-
I don't share Iain Dale's political values. Nevertheless, 61 is not too old to do politics. Is he not aware of the current duel between two elderly Americans aged 78 and 81?
-
"Minor corruption"?!!!
-
Rory is one of the few voices of reason and truth - now he is free from politics. Clever clever man.
-
Surely he must remember the stark similarities we are facing today are the same as under Thatcher. The mass unemployment, record levels of child poverty, Decline of Workers rights, very deliberately Divide in communities, Privatization of our utility's to the highest bidder, massive rise in inequality, squeezed pay, abysmal Services etc etc. it's all there to frighteningly see

The whole of Parliament needs to be modernised. It is still living in the 19th century.
