One day in march of 2001 they were on their way to the recording studio when they were delayed in traffic because of a school shooting at Santana high school. They wrote this song and delayed the release of the album until September 11 2001, quite the release date.

Look at what the youth was dealing with in the 90s through 2000. Then we get this song. This was our anthem.

It was through this song that I was able to tell my mom that I am suicidal and get some help. It's something I still deal with 24 years later everyday. Don't be afraid to ask for help
  • 'Told the world how he felt with the sound of a gat' What a fucking crushing line.

This song gives me chills everytime I hear it. Boom by POD is dope.
  • I am almost 50 now and this song still tells me that I always need to be there for the youth!

My son was 10 when this came out & was just really getting into music. He LOVED this song but admittedly, when I heard the lyrics it gave me pause. We had a long talk about what the lyrics meant. It was definitely a "teachable moment" Great reaction, BP!❤

The most important, and awesome thing, about this song, was how it was promoted. P.O.D. did a media campaign which saw them on the late night T.V. talk shows. When this was presented on Late Night with David Letterman P.O.D. did the coolest thing. They performed the song with a youth choir from a public school in Brooklyn. It was very impressive.

So crazy BP that we both made this realization today that you spoke of at the end. I used to listen to this song all the time when it came out and never realized the real meaning before today. At 41 years old and many years of ups and downs, losing 10 years to addiction and multiple friends along the way. I'm so glad to see that I've finally figured some things out. And I genuinely can't thank you enough for what you do here. Sheesh!!!

This song really focused in on the school shooting and suicide epidemic the last few generations have faced. It should have been our anthem, honestly.

I listened to this song on repeat when I was a teenager. I grew up in the church and P.O.D was one of the few music groups I was allowed to listen to. All the music I listened to was a cry for help and for someone to understand me. I am in my 30s now and still feel lost. This song just pulls out everything I felt growing up.
  • I’m a h.s grad class of 2002 so I was deep into this scene and the linkin parks and the bands of the like. The message is still the same to day and it’s sad. I live in KY and seen them play at Rupp Arena in Lexington. They brought whole crowd of kids on stage to sing the hook. Music is powerful man!!!

“Told the whole world knows how he felt by the sound of a Gat” really hits hard………

When we were listing to this in 2001 We were the youth of the nation now we are the mom and dads of the nation😊
