The upcoming Star Wars series The Acolyte–streaming June 4 on Disney Plus–will introduce Pip: a handheld repair droid developed by creature effects legend Neal Scanlan and designed in Autodesk’s Fusion software. Today, Adam sketches out his own idea for a Star Wars-inspired droid and invites Bill Doran to the workshop to turn that design into a working 3D-printed character!

Thanks so much for bringing me in on this project. It was a ton of fun! =)

I really hope we get a painting, detailing and weathering pass on this little guy! I love it!

“I’ve spent my whole life sketching and only felt okay at it in the last few years” - a reminder I needed today

This has to be one of my favorite videos you've done in a while. The collaboration with Bill Doran and the creative process between Bill and Adam was so much fun.

It would be cool to have a ballast container in the afterburner so that you could hide washers to get the Droid to balance perfectly

I've never wanted to print something so badly in my life please drop the link for the model in the description !!!! It would mean the world !!!♥️♥️♥️

@5:33 "I don't have to be able to picture a full design in my head, i can just keep drawing shapes until something becomes apparent to me. Until like an idea or a theme starts to shake itself loose." As someone who is lacking a bit of direction in life, this really spoke to me.

Love when Bill finds out that his very well used laptop has a touch screen

I LOVE how excited Adam is throughout all of this. I wish we all had shop teachers with this much enthusiasm about our work

When he said "one day build" sketched it out, and minutes later a full 3D model appeared, I questioned my own modelling skill and life choices. At least they clarified it was 4 days of modelling and printing at 25:22

I can totally see this robot made into a remote controlled toy, with wireless camera too. The design is very practical.
  • This has a very Trade Federation feel to it. The shell is reminiscent of a battle droid head and the camber of the wheels looks like the Hailfire Droid
  • Adam’s sponsored content is the best there is! They are amazing at choosing “ads” that are interesting for us fans, they always feel honest and the type of contest is always spot on! ❤

I watch this channel when I’m trying to sober up, you’ve helped me a lot
  • I am sure Autodesk is happy with this episode. I first used Autodesk Autocad Version 2 back in the mid 80's for circuit board layouts. I then used almost all of their products over the next 35 years with Fusion becoming my go-to design tool in my retirement years.

You what I like about this design is that it looks like some in universe droid engineer/enthusiast took an old battle droid’s head and made a new cute and quirky droid for fun.

I’ve really come around to the philosophy that Adam talks about where things “reveal” themselves to you throughout the creative process, instead of trying to force something into existence. It’s affected my short story writing in a great way. It’s also fun because it makes it okay to not know the answer when someone asks you something, because it’s almost like the answer is there somewhere but even you, the creator, don’t know. It gives a particular sort of life to a world.
