I like that they made upgrading all armor worth your while. Most games you'll ignore old armor for new armor. There's some good ideas here
  • I bought this kind of on a whim, saw one trailer and thought it looked good. Did a small amount of research beforehand just to make sure it would run on my Steam Deck, so once that was confirmed I picked it up and I’ve been having a damn good time with it so far. Definitely worth a buy if you’re in it for some fun combat and can overlook its flaws.

My friend and I picked it up yesterday to try it out and let me tell you… the game is pretty damn fun in co-op, we spent a good 4 hours playing it non stop

I've played a couple hours and so far i think the comparisons to Forspoken are pretty accurate. Combat and open world are fun enough to keep me going, but the writing is very rough. Even spotted a few typos in the dialogue.

Guys note this: If you open the gates of bastengar and move to another location, every side/errands quest will be locked, only way to return back is loading older save or start from the beginning.

Hey we're back!! Man this feels nostalgic now ... Been watching you guys since 2018... Believe it or not gameranx helped me improve my English. Thanks a lot Jake and Falcon!! Love you guys!!

I’m gonna get it. A 20ish hour, semi open world rpg that reminds of of Darksiders and kingdoms of amalur sounds great! Especially when it’s a price video games should be.
  • @HappyDays66666
Jake with his obligatory chuckle in the intro of every video. I love gameranx because they are consistently awesome.

This game is good for what it is aiming to be, fighting monsters with sand shifting weapons, the game is fun and worth playing, the gameplay/combat is what was the selling point of it not dialogue or storytelling.. if you like games where you fight monsters and the combat is action packed go pick this up man and play it for yourself

Appreciate your mixed reviews and not either ignoring the flaws or throwing out the baby with the bathwater.

I'm still gonna play this. The surge Devs have talent and the combat on hardest difficulty intrigues me. I think the weapon choices are meant to be customised per enemy type to counter them? Probably matters more on harder difficulties.
  • This looks like its exactly what I expected. Shallow story and characters but strong gameplay
  • @Podcir
I'm 15 hours in and just now reached 3rd location. I generally really like it, more and more the further it goes. Story is simple, that's true, but I don't see it as being a bad thing, especially how well and detailed the world building is. There's a ton of lore stuff to find which enriches everything around you and it got me engaged into the events. I do collect everything possible so that my experience may be a bit different than most people's who just do a bit of exploration (which, imo, is second best thing after combat in this game) and mainly the story. I like how NPCs you've done sidequests for remember it when you sometimes meet them in next location, how sidequests generally have small consequences to how the world looks. Never expected it to be a top tier AAA experience so it deffinitely met my expectations :)

I really feel like you guys are real gamers, the only other guys I watch are the SwitchUp guys. You guys are fantastically honest about games. ❤❤❤
  • @Foreign501st
Looks a lot like the Darksiders series. I absolutely LOVE those games. I might just pick this game up because of that.
  • @glock9ine277
Developers of The Surge series. I gotta support them and play this...Surge is such an underrated game and one of my favorites
  • @BlackAera
I really enjoyed many "generic and flawed" games in the 360 era like Dark Sector, Fracture and Singularity. I love these old school AA games with their charming jankyness. They don't have to appeal to everyone and don't feature hidden monetization mechanics to make back their ridiculous production cost.
  • @Jianichie
Maybe after a patch or two addressing the lock in and camera jank -- yeah, I can honestly see myself picking this up. Not full price, doesn't overstay its welcome, and has a Kingdom of Amalur feel to it.
  • @klauxx9
The way Jake explains every aspect and gripes in terms of gameplay, breakable parts on monsters, unmemorable characters and lores that doesn't stick.. kinda makes me wish there's an open world Monster Hunter game exactly like this
