People are acting like they didn't know prisons were like this in other countries.

Two lessons/rules: 1) Don't visit autocrat countries well known for human rights violations. 2) If you choose to disregard rule #1, then you had better make sure you don't break any laws of that country. Check and double check your luggage for any illegal contraband BEFORE entering that country.
