for what it's worth: despite sharing a healthbar, fire giant phase 2 is actually a fully different enemy that the game spawns in after phase 1, so I think it's only fair that each phase gets one hit each. malenia, meanwhile, actually is just one enemy with her healthbar refilled -- which is probably why the game won't let her die until she finishes scarlet aeonia, because it doesn't want her to accidentally die for real during phase 1
