Join me, Bri Reads, and Leah Sanginiti for an exploration of Pablo Neruda’s Book of Questions. In November 2023, we spent two weeks as artists in residence at Papermoon Puppet Theatre in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

We were inspired by the artwork and ideas in this picture book adaptation of Neruda’s poetry, illustrated by Paloma Valdivia. Most of all, we were inspired by the questions kids ask. Questions that don’t always have a clear answer, but are no less worthy of exploring. Questions like:

• How does nothing do nothing?
• Is fabric alive? If not, how come it can breathe?
• Do snails sneeze?
• How many animals and insects are there in the whole wide world?
• How old is God?
• How does a bird get on a leaf?
• Are we real?
