Probably the best known modern-day member of the Georgian royal family was Prince Guéorgui Vassilievitch Matchabelli (1885-1935). A native of Tiflis, in 1921, he and his Italian-born wife settled in the United States. In 1926, they established the Prince Matchabelli Perfume Company. The prince, an amateur chemist, blended the company's perfumes. Among its best known brands was Wind Song (later heavily advertised on television). Other favorites were Ave Maria and Princess Norina. All the perfumes came in crown-shaped bottles.

One of the things I appreciate about Georgia is how much the medieval history is still widely known and celebrated, even as the country still lives in the 21st century and builds a forward-facing future for itself.
