The Jacksons 1984 Victory tour was everything Jermaine had wished for. Despite conflict and family dramas behind-the-scenes, the sheer attention and thrill of performing to tens of thousands night after night made it all worth it.

Along with the stadium tour, his own chart success and the millions that came in as a result, Jermaine felt that his music career finally had some momentum once again, without sacrificing his independence as a solo artist. However, without brother Michael's superstar power to feed off of, Jermaine's career would once again hit the skids, and Jermaine would consider whether another reunion was needed to kick it back into gear.

  • As a solo artist, Jermaine was NEVER as GREAT as his younger brother, Michael. Jermaine's PROBLEM was that he was always DISTRACTED by WOMEN and SEX instead of staying FOCUSED on his career. Michael, on the other hand, LIVED and BREATHED his career. He gave his ALL to his career----later for women and sex. I'm SURE that Michael ENJOYED himself with WOMEN sometimes, but his JOB came FIRST with him. AS the ULTIMATE PROFESSIONAL, Michael LIVED by the mantra: business before pleasure. Michael didn't let anyone or anything PREVENT him from goin' as FAR as he could in his solo career.

Michael worked hard his entire life. He deserved to be "THE KING OF POP".

After the success of Thriller in 1982, Michael didn't owe his brothers anything and everything he did afterward was a gift.....Thriller catapulted Michael into super stardom that they could not compare to.....he blessed them with his presence with the Victory Tour and let it ALL go after that.....he STILL had mad love for his brothers but felt that he was carrying the load (which he was)......

I was 12 in 1984 and Michael Jackson was so big back then he was otherworldly. No one in the music business nowadays comes anywhere close to the fame and hype Michael Jackson generated.
  • It's true that the Jackson 5 layed the foundation for Michael's success, but he was also the main reason for the success of the Jackson 5 due to his talent and extraordinary charisma. Without Michael the band wouldn't have come as far and it showed later on who the audience was really interested in.

I think Jermaine has been jealous of Michael since they were kids and Michael replaced Jermaine as lead singer.
  • I heard somewhere that before Michael joined the group, Jermaine was the lead singer. When they found out how talented Mike was and he was placed in the band as another lead singer, I believe Jermaine was crushed and he never got over it.
  • @Bluehime
The main difference was Jermaine CHASED fame while Michael ATTRACTED fame.

Michael drove himself...HARD. He had a goal and a determination that was unmatched by his brothers. He was mega-talented but his relentless drive and hard work made him the best in the business. He truly sacrificed himself. None of his brothers did that. Just look at how much better the Bad Tour was than the Victory Tour. It was all HIS. He made all the decisions. I did miss his brothers being on stage with him for the old songs but Bad gave us a taste of what a Thriller Tour could've been.

...all I will say is the Destiny - Triumph eras were the best time for the Jacksons. If only Jermaine was with them during that time.

The reunion albums didn’t have any hit records but torture , state of shock and can you feel it . Mike was the meal ticket since they were kids.

In the family, Michael was part of a whole. From a business perspective, The Jackson 5 is a beloved group, however, their day in the sun had past. It could not have escaped Jermaine's attention that Michael had become a star in his own right, and was the show's main attraction.

What a lot of people don't realize is the success of "Thriller" launched MJ into a level of super stardom that very few have reached. The "Victory" album and tour were great, but let's face facts, it's obvious who people wanted to see. It was also difficult for Jermaine and the rest of the Jacksons to be constantly compared to MJ as well, especially when you're trying to venture out on your own. Great video from the detail. Long live the king of pop. 🎉

Jermaine's jealousy of Michael was well recorded in his song "Word to the Bad" after MJ released his Bad Album. He was always under Mike's shadow and he never got over it.

I wish Michael could tour in 1984 as the solo artist he already was. It would have been the Thriller tour! It probably would have been the most successful tour ever✨️✨️✨️ However Michael paid a huge personal price holding back his passion for touring with his siblings. He is an angel 🖤

Michael wanted to pursue his own musical and dance career. He created successfully "Thriller," "Bad," and "Dangerous." Jermaine and his brothers initially dismissed this as worthless and believed he was wasting his time. Michael was driven by a desire to bring his dreams to life and follow his instincts. He was determined to create and actualize his ideas, regardless of others' opinions about his work. Jermaine and his brothers recognized the immense talent of this mega star and couldn't help but feel jealous. They understood that without Michael, who had the genuine, true, and exclusive talent within the band, they couldn't launch successful solo careers. They held him responsible for their inability to establish solo careers or to make an income by continuing with the Jackson 5. Especially Jermaine was jealous, that's why Michael when he thanked his brothers, often said: "Including Jermaine". From the outset of Michael's life, this conditioning and conflict is pretty clear, often exploited by others for financial gain. He financially supported his father and his brothers for child support and various expenses. He served as the primary source of income for his brothers and his father. At one point, he was tired of constantly providing financial support to them. Michael had always been used as a cash cow for other people.

There were not exactly favorable circumstances around this tour. It is felt that Michael is tense and at times constrained. But the fact that Michael's repertoire and his songs made this show victorious, there is no doubt! Vivat, the king of pop music! Happy Birthday!
  • @n19800101
I don't think the Jackson 5 would have been as successful without Michael as it was. His voice, movement, and energy were simply amazing, which his brothers didn't even come close to.
