  • I have raised several mockingbird babies that fell out of their nest before they could fly. I release them once they learn to fly and feed themselves. Almost all of them stay close so anytime I go outside they will come and sit on the fence or porch rails as if they are visiting with me. I have raised more wild animals than I can remember but I always make sure they can survive on their own before I release them. Sometimes they arent able to care for themselves and in those cases they become family, I have a pet southern flying squirrel that my dog saved from my cat, its eyes hadn't opened yet, he thinks I am his momma bc I let him sleep in my ponytail to mock the feeling of his mommas fur. It worked bc he is about a year old now and doing very well.
