Another thing that plays into the physical media aspect of Sonys long game is that they made a deal with Disney to manufacture, distribute, and market all of their physical media while Disney focuses on Disney plus which does mean that Sony may be able to make the physical copies of marvel and Disney movies 4000 nits
  • @CalebCM
Acquiring Paramount would also be great for PlayStation studios, they would probably make titles from paramount's ip's.
  • @raheeliqbal4107
Yes I would like Sony to buy paramount pictures... I'm ready for 4,000 nit hdr movie.😄
  • @444chroma
all of those movies would be in good hands with Sony. They're my favorite of the big studios
  • TV sales are the marginal percentage of Sony revenue, they don't matter enough to buy a huge movie studio just for them. I'm not sure what's the long game here, but I think that's another streaming platform, or they just want to have bigger portfolio to license.
  • Yes to the acquisition. All TVs will benefit through HDR improvements.

Sony puts out some of the highest quality 4K UHD releases in the game. They're upping the amount of titles they're pushing out and just made a deal to produce discs for Disney. If they get this Paramount deal then Sony will be #1 in the physical media department and output will continue to increase. They've taken notice that physical media is still very profitable and they're trying to corner a majority of the market. It's a really good move honestly, and disc collectors know they'll be getting quality releases.

Amazon calibrating content for a specific brand and model of tv seem gimmicky to me. For how long will Amazon be doing this? I could understand content calibrated for 4000nit TVs independent of model and brand.

Interesting. Always good when one company pushes the envelope. It drives all companies to produce better and better products. Sony pushing to 4K nits, is going to improve all TVs, as they will have to keep up.
  • @HoundStuff
Cool insight! Would that special Sony version of the content only be available through the built in apps or would it also be available for streaming through an external device like Apple TV, etc?
  • @mergeform
Video compression standard bit starves picture quality. It's not only about the highlights, you need more information density for larger screen sizes. Some blu-ray discs sound rough, missing a few syllables. Upgrade the video codec and the equipment, we need more bits not more channels.

That rationale doesn’t make sense to me. TVs are low margin devices. Even if Sony could increase its market share in TV sales and license out a larger back catalog of content to streaming services, there is no way that would generate enough money to offset the cost of acquiring Paramount, taking on their existing liabilities, remastering all that old content, and likely litigating the anti-trust issues that may come up during an attempted acquisition.

Love the content and the business/tech updates. By the way, does anyone know or can guess what would Sony name next year's Bravias? I love the simplified naming, but I don't know what they would call next year's Bravia 9? Will they change the number or add to it- like how they add 'marks' to their phones (i.e. Xperia # Mark 2 or Mark 3)?

Woof...4000 nits. So mini led could still be king....I always thought it had potential. That brightness..love it!
  • @othman0077
From Sony, I need great shadow details and 4 HDMI2.1 and HGIG. with Bravia 9 shadow details guaranteed 👌🏻 2 HDMI2.1 one is eARC not acceptable, at least I hope tone mapping off equal to HGIG this year
  • @lpromer4796
Any updates on your Hisense U8N review? Are you having any issues with that TV?
  • @Dan-px5cl
I think your speculation about Sony"s future direction is Spot On! It's the most likely direction for high profitability and satisfied Sony consumers.
