What if Bosses in Mario games were actually hard? In this video, we will take boss fights to the extreme in Super Mario 3D World by completely customizing the arenas and theming each fight to challenge Mario and put him to the true test.

Wow, so many of you are subscribing! Thank you!
  • Feel like a lot of these fights lose themeing for the concept of challange. Sure, some of these changes compliment the bosses REALLY WELL from a design standpoint Then you have a giant fire rock in a volcano that is now surrounded by ghosts and clouds
  • 3:58 - "Now Mario will have a harder time than just pressing a single button to step on Boom-Boom." *Player gets cheap-shot by the Ring Burners* "Oh no! (pops backup Super Leaf) Anyway..."
  • @SkyanUltra
a lot of these edits are just harder and that's it. almost none of these manage to be difficult while maintaining the theming of the boss and keeping things from becoming too chaotic. here are my criticisms on the fights: Ka-Thunk + Spike rollers fit thematically!... - ... but due to their unpredictability, it makes the fight far more annoying. * If they were timed to throw their spike rollers one at a time, and didn't get stuck on the boss, it'd be far better. I know you're working with limitations as you're only modding the stages, but still worth pointing out. Boss Brolder - This fight suffers massively thematically. Boos and Ty-foos don't fit very well for the volcanic theme of the fight. * Boos could be replaced with a different enemy. Fire Bros. come to mind, but they could be replaced with another basic rocky-themed enemy if they're too difficult in practice. * Not sure how difficult this would be, but perhaps a Charvaargh could replace the Ty-foos while staying relevant theme wise. They would still serve as a blockade during the fight, just in a bit of a different way. Prince Bully * This is actually one of the few changes that complement the boss along with each other well without intruding much on the fight itself and elaborates on the fight! I have no real gripes with this fight. + Bricks make the fight more interesting, blocking previously exposed clear pipes makes the fight far more difficult near the beginning. + Blocking the center with a simple spike trap helps to break up common strategies in movement. + Soccer Ball Cannon both helps with the bricks, and is additionally made a little challenging to reach thanks to the spike traps! Boom-Boom - Forced Damage. Absolute garbage. Never force damage on the player during gameplay for doing nothing wrong, you've basically committed a sin. - Boxes make the fight far easier. Providing a spot where there is literally 0 risk for standing around and doing nothing makes the fight far more braindead easy. - The invisibility doesn't change enough to be a change worth making, it just makes the fight kind of ugly. I know it was initially meant to just be a color change, but that doesn't mean it should stay the way it is. * Perhaps adding a couple of Walleyes on the side of the arena would be a simple enough change to make the fight more difficult, rather than using Ring Burners. This way they can block off part of the arena and perhaps even knock around Boom-Boom in his shell form if they happen to work well enough with him! Pom-Pom - Again, the invisibility doesn't change enough to be a change worth making, and plus now that its intentionally used I have a full proper reason to criticize it. - Making the boss invulnerable in a state where they usually would be is bullshit. Don't do this to your players. It's annoying, and it just drags on the fight for longer than it has to. - And again, like with Boom-Boom's crates, the raised platforms make the fight far easier. Providing a spot where there is literally 0 risk for standing around and doing nothing makes the fight far more braindead easy. * A simple change to make this fight more difficult is to add some spikes on the ground where she usually splits off to. It makes attacking her much riskier without changing the fight in a huge manner. Perhaps even the same idea with Walleyes could work? Just spitballing ideas. Hisstocrat * I don't know how I feel about this fight. On one hand, it has some aspects I like, but on others some changes just feels arbitrary and don't add much to be a big deal. + Fuzzies are kind of whatever in terms of theming, but they work well enough with the boss that I can forgive a little big of theme loss. - Cannons don't do enough to be much of a threat and just kind of cause visual clutter. Most of the time you aren't going to be hit by a cannon ball, even if you aren't paying much attention to them. * Perhaps Fuzzlers could make an appearance here? Again, like Fuzzies, they're not great theming wise, but they do appear in the same world, and you may as well go all in with Fuzzlers if you already have Fuzzies. They could patrol the arena's edges on tracks and force the player to move further in to the center. * If you had more in-depth modding, then it would be interesting to see Hop-Chops be introduced in the fight. Remove the lower Snakers that Hisstocrat summons and instead summon Hop-Chops to require the player to use the springs they drop to jump up on top of a Snaker. I don't think this would be possible with the current mod tools available, though. Motley Bossblob + Water is... interesting. I think I like it? Not much else say about it, it slows down the player and does it well. I think it's good, though. - Conkdors don't do enough to be much of a threat. Yeah sure, they cause issues for circling, but to be honest you can still circle around the arena just fine. They're too slow to catch up in time to hurt you for it, you just have to not run around the edge and it's fine. * Some alternative for the Conkdors would be nice. You could use the Fuzzler again from the Hisstocrat suggestion, but thematically it doesn't really work, outside of maybe color scheme on the gold. Bowser - I don't know what to say about this boss. Too much is going on at once half the time and other times it's far too easy. I can't give proper criticism on these changes, just know my opinion of it isn't great. I doubt there's much that can be done to make this fight more interesting. + The spiky orb interaction is interesting, though. This would definitely be one of the few things that I'd bring back if you're to redo any of these fights again.
  • Sometimes I wish the bosses in Super Mario Bros games would be more difficult, because I like challenging things, nice video! I really liked it, you have my like here
  • @jonathan369
These are amazing concepts for making the bosses harder, however the changers clutter the boss arenas and make it look messy, that’s probably why the bosses are so easy in the base game since there is no clutter.
  • I really like that you changed their colors, I love that shit where harder boss rematches have a different palette (like in Kirby or M&L)
  • @CatmunistCom
some of these ideas are cool but some of them are either A. weirdly themed (broulder) B. stupid mechanics (forced damage, pom pom being stuck in blocks, ice tiles) or C. kaizo rom hack clutter (kathunk)
  • @shrimplysuperior
I've never seen a more soulless boss battle "revamp" in my life
  • @El_Omar2203
King Kathunk and Bowser are my favorite redesigns here, I feel like they are the ones that raises the challenge the most while also not looking too unnatural or cluttered.
  • Other than prince bully, most of these are actually worse than the normal version. The snake boss fight looks even more tedious than before and multiple of the other bosses are just filling up the screen. The Wendy boss fight just looks annoying considering she can spawn inside a block so you have to hope for good rng
  • @browvr6802
I like how whenever something buggy happens he just lists it off as a “happy accident” instead of fixing it😂
  • I never thought I'd live to see boom boom being an actual challenge. Well done
  • @mikethompson1653
With every change I go "Yeah that's actually really cool" and then he just over does it
