BYU Wind Symphony는 Shawn Smith의 지휘 아래 Brigham Young University의 목관악기, 금관악기 및 타악기 연주자들로 구성되어 있으며, 클래식부터 최신 윈드 레퍼토리에 이르기까지 다양한 프로그램을 통해 활발한 연주활동을 펼치고 있다.
BYU Wind Symphony는 새로운 작품을 시도하는 데 적극적이며 캠퍼스 내 객원 작곡가, 지휘자 및 악기 아티스트와 함께 연주하는 등 다양한 시도와 공연을 진행하고 있다.
BYU Wind Symphony는 교내 콘서트 외에도 음악 교육자 전국 컨퍼런스 및 컨벤션, 대학 밴드 디렉터 협회, 전국 및 부문 컨벤션, 미국 밴드마스터 협회 전국 컨퍼런스의 무대에서 공연였으며, 최근에는 한국에서 열리는 2024 제20회 WASBE 세계관악컨퍼런스에 초청받아 참여하게 되었다.
최고의 관악연주단체인 BYU윈드 심포니는 미국 전역과 중국, 일본, 한국, 몽골, 호주, 뉴질랜드, 유럽 전역 등 20개 이상의 국가에서 콘서트를 개최했으며, 지난 2023년 5월에는 스페인과 포르투갈에서 2주간의 콘서트 투어를 진행하였다.
The finest woodwind, brass and percussion players at Brigham Young University perform with the BYU Wind Symphony, under the direction of Shawn Smith. The ensemble maintains an active performance schedule with programming that ranges from wind band classics to some of the newest wind repertoire. The BYU Wind Symphony is active in commissioning new works and regularly collaborates with guest composers, conductors and instrumental artists on campus. In addition to on-campus concerts, the BYU Wind Symphony has been honored with performances at the Music Educators National Conference and Convention; the College Band Directors Association, National and Division Conventions; and the American Bandmasters Association National Conference.
As BYU’s premier wind band, the Wind Symphony has presented concerts throughout the United States, and in over twenty countries – including China, Japan, South Korea, Mongolia, Australia, New Zealand, and throughout Europe.
