GPS tracking devices are becoming more popular and criminals are using them. For example, we're seeing Apple AirTags being used to track cars and steal them from home driveways.

Use your iPhone or download an Android tracker detect app to help you find Bluetooth trackers near you.

Props to this cop for doing actual police work protecting the public by letting them know on YouTube what to look out for

I would also suggest that criminals would be using this to not only steal your car, but also know when your car is not at home, so they could break into your house when your car is not at home.
  • What’s worse is that it could be used to kidnap people not just cars and tools. Thanks for posting!

Thank you officer I had no idea this was even in existence.

We need more police across the country covering hot topic issues like this on youtube. Props to this cop going above and beyond.

I live in Seffner Florida and was leaving the Walmart and my iPhone notified me that I had an AirTag and my son and I found it in the back of my truck. I keep thousands of dollars of tools in my truck. My truck is an older truck so I think they were trying to get the tools.

Someone tagged my truck, I noticed it, immediately knew what it was, and left it on there. When I got home I attached my truck to my trailer and set my cameras to alert me for all movement. Dude jumped out of a car at the end of the road, walked down the cul de sac like he was just out for a stroll. Car waited at the other end by the park. I snuck over behind a big oak tree like 5 feet from the car in an old halloween costume when he was at the other end of the road. He walked up to it and had a tool in his hand. When he got like 3 feet away I jumped out and screamed as loud as I could “I WILL EAT YOUR FACE!!!” I’ve never seen anyone get more scared and run faster in my life, and he was heavy. I took the AirTag to the large traffic light at the main intersection and used a small foldable ladder to stick it like 10 feet high. I can only imagine what they looked like if they tried to find it. The video is useless bc I was on the other side of my truck and trailer that blocked the cameras, all you saw was a blur run by lol. That part was disappointing.

Just buy a vehicle with a manual transmission. The vast majority of people under 30 have no clue how to drive one :)

People who steal make me sick. Someone works hard for what they have and thieves think it’s okay to set up schemes like this to steal someone else’s hard earned money. Good job on informing people.

Modern preventative policing at it's best. Nice work Canada. Greetings from New Zealand.

Behind the battery area is the sound unit which the nefarious people will remove so the air tag will not sound. I saw that you can do that for your own tags when you hide one on your own car. So if someone steals it they will maybe see there’s a tag on board but not be able to hear it therefore hindering them finding it easily.

This is scary. I’m a flight attendant and found an AirTag in my carrier. When My crew and I were heading to the hotel my phone alerted me. When I got to my room I looked through my bags and found it in the front pocket of my carrier. Alerted the security team of my airline and supervisors and my whole team was moved to another hotel. If your ever traveling make sure to check your things when you land.
  • People laugh at me for putting my steering wheel lock every time I park. I tell them, “if you’re in a rush to steal a car, are you going to go for the one that has a visible item you’d need a heavy big tool to cut or are you going to go for the sucker parked next to it with nothing on it” Now if they really want your car, they’re going to get it no matter what (when there’s a will there’s a way), but that extra time they’re taking to try and take it, someone might spot them or you might make it back in time. It also helps to drive manual knowing most people don’t know how to anymore 🤣
  • At 1:39 you can also deactivate by using two inexpensive tools - a brick and a 3 lb mini Sledge

How does covering your VIN help prevent car thefts?
  • @guytait
The legal system needs to make it less desirable to be a criminal.

Honestly, never have I seen so much theft in all my years and I'm 67. Now this and the reality they will not only take your car or whatever, they now know where you live. Thank you officer, it's important to talk about these possibilities.
