Nintendo released their little white box, the Wii, over 15 years ago and it's legacy is...interesting. As a big fan of the console since it's inception, I have a whole lot to talk about, so come hear me rave about the Wii for 30 minutes!

"Everybody Votes" was such a fantastic concept of a channel, I really wish they'd bring it back as a Switch app or something. Really needs to be more of a thing nowadays just for giggles. Just random harmless questions just to see where you stand in things that don't affect anything, it was a fun little ritual to do every day.

"Whatever man, shut up. I like video games" Now those are wise words that can end 99.9% of discussions online surrounding the subject. I'm gonna use them from now on.

"It is more important that these games get played than owned." This is the best outlook for game preservation and emulation

Man, the Wii Sports theme lives up to this day. They did not need to give a glorified tech demo such a good soundtrack, yet they did. Now that's dedication.

The Wii is such a nostalgic console for me. I can’t count how much time I’ve spent as a kid making Miis in the Mii Maker, and playing Wii Sports Resort and Brawl. It had its problems (and it’s library is 90% shovelware, and it causes Nintendo to start slacking on hardware that still bites them to this day), but I still love this thing. Also, Nintendo really needs to bring back the Virtual Console. It’s still bizarre how the Wii had the best retro support…

The Wii-DS 2006-2012 were a whole different era. So much nostalgia.
  • In my humble opinion, the Wii is Nintendo's best home console. It managed to represent everything Nintendo stands for and so much more. Dare I say, it was the most innovative console in history, and single-handedly changed the future of the gaming industry in more ways than one.

I remember getting Twilight Princess for the Wii before getting the Wii itself because it was damn near impossible to actually get for a good while. I ended up spending weeks just reading the manual just wondering what the actual game was going to be like. I was practically crying when I came home from school and my mom revealed she actually managed to get a hold of one. I will also never forget the Wii for being my official start to retro collecting. When I finally got my first job and my first paychecks, I went crazy at used game stores picking up hidden gems like Muramasa, Sakura Wars V, Trauma Center, FE Radiant Dawn, and more that just went under the radar. Sure it was the start of my library becoming too bloated for me to actually play them all, but I'll never look over my collection and regret ever purchasing any of these hidden classics.

I’ve had my Wii for years. It’s a gift from my grandpa and still means a lot to me. I’m surprised it still works tbh

This re-awakened all my history and nostalgia with the Wii! I usually see it as just an okay console, but this reminded me of the good ol' days I had with it, so thank you for bringing it all back. Some lost memories are now treasured again.

I think it's pretty unfair how much flak the Wii gets for the amount of garbage on the system. I mean, the PS1 and PS2 both had over 4000 games if Wikipedia is anything to go by, you can't tell me most of those were winners.
  • Wii was one of those consoles that reside on a bell curve, those with an average interest in games think of it poorly, but casual fans love whats there, and hardcore fans who like to dive deep find an absolute treasure trove of niche hidden gems. It's honestly staggering going back and seeing not only the underappreciated games I found through Nintendo Power that I played as a kid, but the even more hidden games that I discover now. I'm just a sucker for exactly the type of quirky games the Wii had in spades. I thought I knew it all when it comes to the Wii, yet somehow this video brought to my attention Camelot DID make a Golf game for it? Awesome to find out.

The Wii was awesome, so many games that I would play for hours. Some of my favorites are sonic unleashed, super smash bros brawl, dragon ball z budokai tenkachi 3, sonic colors and Kirby’s return to dreamland

Ive been bitten by the nostalgia bug for the Wii hardcore as of recently, and Im absolutely loving it. Any console that has Mario Galaxy is automatically one of the best.
  • @NintendoHero
Some of my favorite gaming memories of all time came from playing the Wii, I absolutely love this system and always will

The Wii also had Mario Sport Mix, aka the most underrated game of all time. Seriously, no one talks about it, but it's a Mario game made by Square Enix where you can kill a Final Fantasy boss by chucking dodgeballs at it. Honestly used to be one of my favorites as a kid
  • I really like the mii maker. It had a lot of customization for its time
  • I've just started collecting for the Wii after wanting to experience more of the games surrounding my childhood, and what a good idea it was. The Wii, no matter how polarising it was and still is, is such a legendary piece of gaming.

Past midnight in France, but I couldn't go to bed without watching this love letter to a console I like so much. Thank you for this retrospective (and for putting a few words about my work!), I believe you might have caught the interest of some "wii-players-to-be"' with this one! Long live to Sin and Punishment!

Deadly Creatures! This is genuinely the only time I've ever heard the game mentioned! I met the developers many years ago with my father and he talked to one woman that worked on the game about how I was (as a ten year old) really interested in The Legend of Zelda. God, to an indie dev, that must have been heartbreaking. The game was definitely novel, though!
