Welcome to our fourth episode on the Timeline of Elden Ring - the Liurnian Wars, and the alliance between the Moon and Erdtree. A thorough Lore video covering the debut of the champion Radagon and his union with Rennala, the secret behind the first Liurnian War, and the three children Rykard, Radahn and Ranni. There is of course lots of uncertainty and speculation, as with any attempt to make an Elden Ring timeline, so this is all just our own theory!

Thank you to CyberPowerPC UK for sponsoring this video and helping with future videos! If you want a beautiful PC without any stress or hassle, head over to their website to learn more (and I recommend reaching out to their customer service - they're fast to respond and super helpful): www.cyberpowersystem.co.uk/?utm_source=youtube&utm… The Liurnian Wars always felt like we had an incomplete picture. While this videos has plenty of speculation, as with the whole series, to try cover the entire timeline, we felt this helped a lot of the questions fall into place. What are some of your theories surrounding this period of history? Now that we know the Carians feature in the DLC, here's hoping we get some answers!

Amazing!! I'm so glad you mentioned the geography because there are so many clear indications that something happened to the land and yet we rarely see people use this to contextualize their theories.
  • Hawkshaw, your Iceberg video on Snakes is one of the most incredible analyses I've ever seen on YouTube of any subject. Different league, mate - thanks!
  • @Demiurge322
The Rome total war music! I swear every song in your videos fits perfect to my tastes
  • The right side of the map has a MASSIVE waterfall drop off. The waterfall is in the map itself but can also be seen from the Caelid coastline looking eastward and Farum azula. Cant say for certain but it obviously could be a very ancient meteor impact Edit: also super visible from Melina’s divine tower

An observation that I haven't seen discussed is the brooch on the Mask of Confidence. It is in the form of two snakes, both two headed, intertwined with one another. They look like Messmer's snakes but are gold. Also these gold snakes appear on the top of Selivus's hat. A more appropriate symbol for the wedding would be a gold moon, so why the snakes? You can see this brooch in detail on Zlofsky's flikr, page 4.

Hey Hawk, really loving all the recent content! The DS 1 ones were all exceptional too! Also wanted to say, your writing got even better with time. Without looking, i can often barely tell whats an item description or your writing! Lore-drans greatest! You have a heart of Gold, dont let them take it from you!!!

The proposed alternate path also explains the sequence of accomplishments in Godfrey's armor description. Beat the giants, headed down the east side of the Lands Between, which was likely once Farum Azula. Here he fights the Storm Lord. During the march through Farum Azula down to Caelid seems like the most likely time for Gransax to attack the capital and has a lot of logic to it and a more direct reason for the attack on Leyndell. It would explain why Godfrey wasn't mentioned in the defense, he was away. (I think Fortisaxx killed Gransax and that is why there is no mention of Gransax being slain. It wasn't done by one of the Erdtree faithful's heroes so the kill isn't celebrated. Instead the act that leads to the kill is, Godwyn befriending/turning Fortisaxx. Outside of Godfrey's influence Leyndell has a supremacist bent to its culture.) I was passing through Caelid and I realized that if we separate the DragonBarrow, Caelid has some fairly sprawling stone towns/cities (I can't help but wonder if Forsaken Ruins and Caelid Waypoint Ruins might have been part of Caelum as one sprawling city in East Caelid but the connecting structures have fallen). If you follow the Lord's Highway (Elden Road, whatever folks wanna call it) from Limgrave to Sellia and just glance to your left and right you can usually see ruins on one side or the other until you get to the southern bend in the road. Aeonia had two towns on it, Sellia on the east bank and what is now called the Street of Sages ruins on the west. Which would jive with the implication of Godfrey traveling down the East of the Lands Between. If Caelid was taken before Limgrave it makes sense it would have had more development prior to the Shattering. This would also likely be the last region Godfrey was properly celebrated as Lord, since the Church where we get the echoes of him being tarnished are in the church right outside Caelid. So in that sense it would track the Radahn would want to be there since he is a Godfrey fanboy, Caelid is where Godfrey last stood as uncontested Elden Lord.

This game blows my mind just how insanely deep it is in lore and mystery I’ve never seen a game quite like it
  • I know you have your reasons, but Miriel's dialogue very clearly points to Radagon only ever being an aspect of Marika. He wasn't just a random reserve commander that invaded Liurnia while Godfrey was busy with the main army. Radagon led a "great golden host" as his very first appearance in the historical record, immediately married the Queen of the lands he just invaded, then became one of the most powerful characters in the lore by marrying a woman he should have no connection to. 🤔 That makes no sense. The context clues of Miriel's dialogue very obviously point to Radagon being an aspect of Marika that popped into existence sometime before the Liurnian Wars, probably as a direct result of the defeat of the Fire Giants. Radagon came into existence as another soul inside Marika's body (most likely in a similar vein to the relationship between Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde), led Marika's army, used seduction to conquer their last enemy as well as gain personal power, then kicked out the only one who could possibly beat him at the time (Godfrey). Marika had contingencies though and bid the Tarnished to return with the power to kill a God because she wanted them to kill Radagon once he took over completely. The Shattering was Marika's last ditch effort to deny Radagon of godhood by breaking Elden Ring and therefore also their body that housed it.

I just noticed from the footage used towards the end that the Graven Masses use the same artillery style attack at the Wandering Mausoleum in the Snowfield, the same area where we get the Graven Mass talisman. Could it be that one of the demi-gods, theoretically sacrificed by Marika, was learned in sorcery and that power manifested in this graven technique?
  • @adamsirin7249
And..... because of the disconnection of the mountaintops and Caelid, we've probably understood why Radahn challenged the stars.
  • @poolcu3
Another amazing lore video! There is something interesting to note though, and it's Melina's recalling of Marika's words at the Grand Lift of Dectus. "The Erdtree governs all. The choice is thine. Become one with the Order. Or divest thyself of it. To wallow at the fringes; a powerless upstart." If the Lift is the start of the trail and the Bellum church and monument are specifically about the First Liurnian Wars, Marika is probably talking to the Nox here. What is really curious though is that "Order" is capitalized, something that if I'm not mistaken we only see when the Golden Order is in reference, even when it comes to the various Elden Lord endings. When Ranni talks about the Age of Stars, "order" is not capitalized, as it is not one of gold, so no Golden Order there. This means the Golden Order could be traced back to as early as before the Liurnian Wars if it's not a mistake. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this.
