What is behind the rise of the far-right in Europe? | Inside Story

Published 2024-06-11
European far-right parties made substantial gains in the EU's parliamentary election.
In France and Germany, parties once considered to be on the fringes, are now establishing themselves as viable challengers to the establishment.
So what is driving this shift on the 'Old Continent'?
And will these parties be able to turn their successes in European elections into power at a national level?

Islam. The Europeans are drawing a line in the sand. Long overdue.
  • Pro Palestinian protests only shifted people towards right wing. West stands with Israel, not with terorists, we proved it many times, the more you protest for Gaza the more we support Israel, and therefore - far right
  • AlJazeera, you were not able to find analysts that are unbiased or at least find some that are on both sides? You got these two ladies who are almost crying there from the fear of the “far right”?
  • Europe is a Christian civilization and must remain that way. I don't go to Saudi Arabia and tell them to change their way of life. Immigrants must respect the norms of European society

You can't allow people who are used to such a low standard of living to bring down the standard of living in Europe. Europeans have migrated for centuries, so I hope that this isn't causing this shift. There are many refugees who are not used to living in societies that are organized. They are not used to rules and regulations. They tend not to assimilate, which creates lots of problems.

The key word here is 'nationalistic.' Nationalism is often associated with right-wing political movements, as it has historically been utilized by right-wing parties and groups. However, there is also left-wing nationalism, which is known as socialist or anticolonial nationalism.
