Great video as always! Question from someone who hasn't played Dwarfs before. So, I'm thinking a Cannon and Grudge Thrower in the middle with an Engineer evenly spaced between them? Would that work or would you need an Engineer for each?
  • Think there's a place for the trollhammer torpedo in this discussion and perhaps also the magic missile from the anvil. You didn't really mention risk of misfire much, as far as I can tell that's zero for the bolt thrower, very low for the organ gun (almost negligible with an engineer) and weirdly significantly greater for the cannon and grudge thrower. I know you don't like comparing with previous editions (though this is where all the units come from and I don't think points values have changed much), but it's very relevant in terms of why people think the grudgethrower isn't much use and also why you're perhaps seeing more bolt throwers. Dwarf bs3 (and no option to use the engineer's bs) is quite a big problem for the bt and a bit of a negative for the organ gun (my instinct is this is the best of these machines regardless). No rune of accuracy makes the gt inaccurate against monsters etc and beyond that competitive lists don't seem to include good targets for it and it won't hit that many models now even when on target. Cannon is obviously the easiest to hit with though as you say the damage is disappointing, mainly because it's best targets now have far more wounds and more saves. Think I'll be trying organ gun plus either a cannon or two bolt throwers as a first stab. Along with a couple of troll hammers if I like my 'counts as' irondrakes models when they arrive. Don't think I'll look to replace my missing goblobber unless I find myself playing 6th or 8th ed and as you say the flame cannon has little obvious appeal.
