The famous quintet starts around 3:41:40 Janowitz’s singing from 3:42:20 is so radiant it brings tears to my eyes. Thanks for posting this. Indescribably valuable

I saw Thomas Stewart in the role of Sachs at the Lyric Opera of Chicago (Fall, '85). Jose van Dam was scheduled, but had to withdraw. I approached with some trepidation, sat in on the final rehearsals (at the invite of conductor Marek Janowksi), and met and had lunch with the wonderful Beckmesser, Julian Patrick. But the impression that remains is the towering presence of Thomas Stewart as Sachs, with total command of the role and the stage. It was utterly amazing, and remains the closest thing to an encounter with God (no blasphemy intended) that I've ever encountered in the theater. LR

Kubelik’s interpretation is so vivid but also so magnificent.

I’ve heard great things about this recording and now I know why.

Wagner's sonorities in Meistersinger are so mellow, like home.

Thank you Vladimir!  I love to have that MEISTERSINGER back.  Thomas STEWART is at his very best!

This is the best performance of Mesitersinger recorded in Studio.

.....Times when Bavarian State Opera had all in its own Ensemble! Kónya, ein Meistersinger! A Dream-Cast! Mi piace moltissimo

Reading a book on Meistersinger (Owen Lee's Wagner and the wonder of art), and he says that this performance/recording is his favorite. Glad to have found it. Thx.

I opened this at random, a David sang very much like it needs to be and as if I had heard him before, and it was Gerhard Unger, the David of my youth.

I Went to the Bayreuth Festival and heard Meistersinger Monday August 3, 1970. I still have the program. Hans Wallat was the conductor, Norman Bailey- Hans Sachs, Ernst Kozub- Walther, Janis Martin-Eva, Thomas Hemsley-Beckmesser, Hermin Esser-David, and Karl Ridderbusch-Pogner. Starting time was 16:00 hours, Act2 began at18:30, Act 3 at 20:35 and the end at 22:40. Wilhelm Pitz was the the Choir master.
