A Chaos flower bed full of old seeds would be so beautiful and fun to see what grows!!
  • We save our egg shells. I grind them up in the blender to a fine powder and add a handful of that to the hole I have dug for my tomato plants
  • Funny story, when I was about 9 my mother had planted a small garden including an eggplant. One day I was in the garden and saw a big eggplant. All excited I ran to my mother to tell her we had the biggest plum in the world in our garden. LOL!

Becky, your peppers are called cho-dee-share-doe (Txorixero) and the other is sweet mor-oo-ga, which is a scorpion pepper. I hope you don't mind me helping you with pronunciation. My husband is dyslexic and I tend to help him with words and spelling a lot. In our home, I do all the spelling/writing, and he does all the math and computers! :)
  • I am not sure if you have seen gorilla carts but they literally transformed my garden work compared to a wheelbarrow. They have 4 wheels and a dump feature. My husband kept suggesting one and I kept saying my wheelbarrow was fine. I finally relented and literally every time I use it, it makes me happy.

Just a FYI, it takes years for egg shell to leach calcium into the soil. I recently found a recipe in which you grind up egg shells, lots of them, then bake and grind them up. Place in a bucket and let leach 10 days. Strain off and use one ounce to a gallon of water. Spray on leaves, helps with end rot too.

All the experiments I've seen with that egg trick and other tricks like the fish show that it doesn't actually help, but it can hinder the growth of plants because since it's not broken down into the useasble minerals for the plant, it actually takes up nutrients like nitrogen to break/compost down.
  • I wonder if your mom and mother in law would host us each for a garden tour of their home gardens. They both shared their kitchens with us so lovingly, and I bet their gardens are just as great

Your not the only one getting things out late! We have had so much rain, the yard is a swamp; and there’s lots of rain in the forecast for the next two weeks. Good luck getting everything out.

Becky, txoricero, you might find it as choricero. Is a pepper tipical from de Basque Country in the north of Spain. Is a pepper that you collect when it is red, then you hang them tied with some cord and leave to dry. Once it is dried you can storage them, and when you want to use them you put them in hot water for about half an hour to rehydrate and then with the help of a spoon you take put the "meat" of the pepper, discarding the skin. You can use pimiento choricero / txoricero in many steps typical from the north of Spain: Patatas a la riojana (stew of potatoes and chorizo, this pepper and pimentón (similar to paprika) Marmitako (stew tuna with potatoes and peppers) Bacalao a la vizcaína (cod in a sauce made with onions and this pepper) Search for its uses as pimiento choricero, is more usual to find it written this way.
  • Hi Becky! Love your garden videos. You have inspired me. I have grown medicinal herbs for years but those are pretty easy. I started my first vegetable garden at 53 this year.
  • @13271969
That 6:30 in the morning view of your yard is everything❤
  • Becky, I just planted my tomatoes! I haven’t planted anything for a long time. I am so excited to see them grow. I have also purchased some canning supplies. I retired last year and now I have a new and fun hobby. Thank you so much for encouraging me through your videos!! ❤😊

We put Epsom salt in the soil with our tomatoes. Magnesium is something our soil lacks.
  • @meganh731
I was always taught that when you make the hole to plant, put water in it before you put the plant
  • With the eggplant you can make a wonderful Middle Eastern called Babaganoosh. It is a beautiful creamy , Smokey dip. Very yummy served with warm flatbread/pittas. Another dish is mousaka made with ground beef and white bechamel sauce, layered with mousaka similar to lasagna
  • @zaphyrae
Hi Becky, my first tomatoes ever have started fruiting! They're currently marble sized! Thanks for inspiring me to start gardening!

Hi Becky. It's so nice to see you planting again. I'm so happy for this planting season❤👍
