✅ Who We Are
We’re the RV Odd Couple.  We sold our house and most of all our possessions to live in an RV, pursuing freedom, independence and adventure. We documented the process to transition into full-time RV living with our family and experienced the RV travel mistakes. This channel provides valuable trailer travel tips and tricks, RV life basics, and motorhome beginners tips. We upload fifth wheel RV vlog adventures as we travel the country! If you’re into traveling vlogs, RV country traveling, or want to start full time RV living on the right foot, join on the adventure of our lives.

I think the campground where I am now might frown on me marking my territory. John already marked it though.
  • we have a half-tank-rule: once you start getting near the 1/2 tank mark on the fuel gauge, start looking for a station.
  • @gumotx
It’s not just big cities! This crisis is lurking everywhere!😞
  • We travel back roads, very little interstates. Support small businesses this way!!

Take a Garmin reach or similar in case the phones go down, one button gets you help. Also, put an air tag on your dog and a gps tracker on your RV. Your family can follow you and if someone steals your RV you can find it. Airtag bicycles and things that hang on the outside of your RV.

I have what I call my bug out list which I use to get ready for camping. One part is what we have to do for the house, one part for the truck, and one part for the camper. I also carry two spare tires after getting a flat in the middle of no place. There are still a lot of great people out there willing to help when needed. Safe travels.

I live in my van in a mostly rural county with a handful of small towns. But I still keep a firearm (actually three) within arms reach. I haven't needed to use one, but there have been people in the area who have been attacked. I'm 71 years old and can't fight or run so thank God for the 2nd.
  • @paulblack1799
Be honest, John. This is your entire checklist. #1. Tell Mercedes we need a checklist. #2. Relax. 😊
  • Yes, so sad when people pass by... they don't even say good morning or hello, or even make eye contact for that matter. I think people are afraid of that connection....and definitely things have changed since ground zero covid... 2019 was the very first year we became full-timers and then with covid hitting shortly after...oh boy that was quite the experience. I just pray that God uses me to brighten someone else's day. As far as safety...it can be scary out there. Always be aware of your surroundings.
  • @laurae.4285
It is a different world out there now. I didn't start RVing until after 2020. It can be scary when traveling... So i pray. A LOT! 🙏🙏
  • RV Tip: (17 years full-timing) Propane use: This holds true whether in a campground or boondocking. Turn OFF the water heater. Plan hot water usage for once per day. Turn ON the water heater only when you PLAN for it. Reason: My Atwood water heater took an hour to heat ten gallons on propane only. During the 24 hour period the heater burned 10 minutes every two hours. That is 2 hours burn-time every 24, after the initial heating, just to KEEP the water hot (three hours burned). I am not even awake during 40 minutes of burn. Better to plan ahead. Using the elec plus propane shortens burn time, but the rate of heat loss would still require a maintenance booster every two hours, so this holds true. Plan Ahead. Turn it OFF. Note: I used this Plan Ahead idea, using propane to heat water in a campground where each site was individually monitored for elec. The park manager commented that I hardly used any electricity. PS, under the Plan Ahead, I hardly used any propane either.

It's definitely getting rough out there... gotta pick your destinations and routes carefully for sure
  • @C2RV
This was helpful. We not only live, but were born and raised in NYC, so we see and know what you mean. NYC has returned back to 1980’s 1990’s 😢 We are starting our RV life as most timers soon. Leaving the concrete jungle for country roads. As city folks, we are new to RV life, actually new to outdoor life that is outside of our big city. Talk about adventure. We are going to try to vlog our adventures for our family and friends. We have been watching your channel for a long time. Thank you for standing up for God and freedom.
  • @RVDumpStation
Staying out of cities is really the best advice to give right now.
  • I like you two! We have a campervan and are "sometimers". We avoid cities like the plague. Living in cities is no way to live. It's so far removed from real life. People need to connect with nature/creation and grow their own food for starters.
  • @jackstitt1395
Good information out to folks and using humor often. But most important as you said, "Get close to God and Pray"
  • @shekharmoona544
I work in mental health. There's policy's in some states where you have to be homeless for 1 year before you get the assistance you need for transitional housing. That means if they couch surf one time they have to start the whole process all over again.
  • Just got back from week at Smoky Mtn National Park…..it’s pretty much same as it was 2,3,5 and 7 years ago. Great people at our campground. Great folks in town nearby. Haven’t had anything but good experiences these past 10 years. Look forward to more!
  • @debbieleeday83
In Yosemite there are never any bathrooms. My Sisters would die when I said. “ you’re going to run up in the trees and here’s your paper. 😂 OMG That has nothing to do with having an RV. But.. You gotta do what you gotta do. 😊
  • I'm getting out of the metro area where I live as soon as possible. Great message!
