I attended Kyokushin Karate camp... and here's what I learned from the bareknuckle karate martial art.

Osu Sensei Seth! On behalf of our Phoenix Karate-do members, thank you for attending our 41st camp! It’s courageous to come into the unknown and do what you do. It was a wonderful experience for us all. Thank you for shining a light on Kyokushin and the Phoenix Karate-do association. Your attendance was undoubtedly a highlight of many this year. Osu! “Dodge? Nah imma eat that 7 punch combo and return one of my own” - Kyokushin
  • As a kid this is what I imagined all Karate Dojos being like. This was very cool and happy for them to have such an awesome community like that.

In MMA, Kyokushin guys will head kick you in the clinch but instantly panic if you punch them in the head. A kyokushin fighter who trains boxing for a year is for sure a scary striker to face

I started Kyokushin karate at 39 and I'm still going strong. it's never too late, Osu!
  • I've done martial arts for about 8 almost 9 years and kyokushin was the first style that I practiced for about 4-5 years and it was absolutely brutal the training is insane and it is ABSOLUTELY full contact but it turns your body into an absolute weapon I thank my sensei for pushing my classmates and I to this very day I was very blessed to have a sensei like him

There is a mostly female kyokushin dojo that my neighbor and her daughter go to. During live sparring people regularly get bloody noses/ bruises, no serious injuries but it was much more hard core than I expected. It piqued my interest, but this video made me want to look into it even more.
  • "This isn't that strip-mall Karate. This is that naughty Karate." I can't remember for the life of me where I heard that, but for whatever reason, the title and thumbnail had that quote popping in my head. Hardcore Karate sounds way cooler, to be fair.
  • I trained with Phoenix for about 7-8 years and always did the camps. I have nothing but respect for Phoenix and the leadership, and I grew so much especially in confidence and ability from when I started. Osu!

The deep dive explanation of their punching was neat. I always thought kyokushin punches looked a little goofy compared to typical kickboxing but they're just adapting to bare knuckle, duh.

Seth being the only one in a black Gi is genuinely sick.
  • I'm a 2nd dan(nidan) judoka, 3rd degree black belt in tae-kwon-do, trained gymnastics since I was 5 years old and muay thai since I was 7, all of it in parallel to the other... busy person. I started Kyokushin later and became a 1st kyu and I know that the only reason I kept going was because I was an active muay thai ring fighter. Kyukoshin is BRUTAL. These days I'm just old and out of shape due to an accident falling off a scaffolding 9 years ago destroying my back and hip. This video makes me want to train again but that's by no means a possibility. I really love your videos Seth.
  • Lots of people talk the talk, no one walks the walk like Sensei Seth. If "put your money where your mouth is" was a person.

NGL, this looked like a LOT of fun.
