Long Island's first food scrap collection program was rolled out on the East End. The town of Riverhead collects scraps from homes and businesses to reduce the waste stream and make compost for local farms. As CBS2's Carolyn Gusoff reports, it's considered a win-win.

  • "We're running out of space." I can't believe he said that without a hint of irony. If there's one thing the US is not lacking of it's space. Greetings from cramped Holland! 🇳🇱

My 3 dogs eat alot of my left overs, meat, fruit veggies, etc. What they don't like I put it in the front mound for the critters. They eat it all, mostly birds and squirrles.

Probably could give them several buckets and pick it up once every 2 weeks. Gas is very expensive.

I throw mine out for the animals it doesn’t last an hour tops…and if it does the raccoons get it late lol

Good but If you don’t watch out it can attract mice and rats
  • That's ok to stop waste but not for human consumption. People deserve clean, fresh food. We're not animals. Even animals deserve clean and fresh, undamaged food. Using it for compost is a great idea
