49 years ago today. This is a masterpiece.

My mother was the biggest Beatles fan I've ever known. She left us last year, and this was the song we listened to with my brothers when we first heard the news. I still cry whenever I put it on, but besides sadness and loss there's also comfort in that crying. I can almost hear her voice singing along, telling me still to "let it be". It's like a tiny piece of her is still here, in this music, waiting for every moment when this terrible grief becomes unbearable...

This song takes on a new meaning when you understand that "Mother Mary" is a reference to Paul's actual mom, Mary McCartney. A song about a grown man, remembering the wisdom of his mother in times of trial and darkness. Beautiful 😢
