At this very second, you are on a narrow ledge between life and death. You probably don’t feel it, but there is an incredible amount of activity going on inside you. And this activity can never stop.

Picture yourself as a slinky falling down an escalator moving upwards – the falling part represents the self replicating processes of your cells, the escalator represents the laws of physics, driving you forwards. To be alive is to be in motion but never arriving anywhere. If you reach the top of the escalator there is no more falling possible and you are dead forever.

Somewhat unsettlingly, the universe wants you to reach the top. How do you avoid that and why are you alive?

"Picture yourself as a slinky" Immersion 100
  • "One day you will merge with the dead universe again, maybe you'll tell it about you're adventures" This is the most beautiful quote I've ever listened to about death. It doesn't have to constantly be a bad or sad topic, its a part of life that we can't avoid, yet, we can all choose to see a more bright side of it, all humans will eventually leave this world someday to meet the universe and its wonders, our lives will come to and end, yet, they will leave an unforgetable light, that nobody's gonna forget.
  • "At some point you will merge with the rest of the dead Universe again, maybe you'll tell it stories about your adventures, maybe not. But before you find out you get to do what life does best: Making a dead Universe much more interesting." this lines gave me chills

From being inspired by this video in high school, to procrastinating on my biochem exam in college, I have no words on how priceless Kurzgesagt is on making science accessible. Even after I learned the ins and outs of glycolysis, this video remained to be the most concise and elegant way I've seen ATP discussed.

I watch these videos at 4am, when the thesis dread or parental anxiety is keeping me from sleep. They always help, but I never really know why. Thanks for all the effort. I really appreciate it.
  • @isthisjish3794
6:32 : "it became the powerhouse of the cell.." Me : Oh I know what THIS is about
  • Having gone through some biology classes, they really do simplify this whole process quite a bit, but the concepts are sound. It just made me realize that I probably don’t fully understand the complexity of many of the things I’ve learned on this channel but that what I’ve learned still is technically true. They’ve made videos about their creative process and I really don’t know how they full of that balance between over explaining things and oversimplifying them. My hat goes off to them.

This video is therapy for people who had to learn Kreb’s cycle
  • @purplehaze2358
β€œThis is widely considered to be one of the greatest anime betrayals....” I burst out laughing at that just because Kurzg is about the last channel I would expect to hear that from.
