At the start of 1978, Radio 2 shuffled its day-time line-up and timings - moving Pete Murray's showbiz & entertainment "Open House" show to lunchtime, swapped with Jimmy Young's current affairs programme which moved to mid-morning.

The new schedule enabled Terry Wogan to develop an on-air rapport with Jimmy Young who would pop in to plug his show each day during the last half-hour of Terry's breakfast slot.

Meanwhile, Pete Murray's new weekday timing of 12.30 - 14.30 would give him a live hand-over to David Hamilton each day.

Here are 3 such hand-overs showing how the two presenters developed this slot from a fairly formal handover in January to an increasingly manic double-act by April 1978.

  • Pete Murray still alive and well at 97 with both being on Boom radio last December which was a brilliant popadoodletastic show !

Very early 1978 if the first PM/DH handover chat is accurate - “Floral Dance” was at number 28 in the charts for 2 weeks - w/e 7th & 14th Jan 1978
