Historically, younger people have voted at lower rates than older Americans. Could that change now that Vice President Kamala Harris is at the top of the Democratic ticket? Harris has become a meme sensation on social media, with popstar Charli XCX saying “Kamala is so brat,” in a nod to the British singer’s latest album. Can this burst of new energy keep Gen Z fired up enough until November?

This week on What’s America Thinking, host Julia Manchester chats about turning out Gen Z voters to the polls with Rachel Janfaza, founder of “The Up and Up,” a newsletter focused on Gen Z and politics. Also, hear about campaign efforts by young Democrats from David Hogg, co-founder and board member for March For Our Lives, co-founder and president for Leaders We Deserve, survivor of Stoneman Douglas High School shooting. Joe Mitchell, founder and president of Run Gen Z and the youngest member to serve in Iowa legislature, talks about the voter sentiments of young Republicans.

What’s America Thinking? is a lively, informative show that leans into why Americans are so fed up with the government and its inability to make their lives better. We’ll focus on the people behind the polls, pocketbook issues, the disconnect between Washington and Main Street - what Americans are REALLY thinking!

Younger voters don't want another 79 year old unscrupulous politician in office. Vance has also proven to have very little conviction to what he says and doesn't represent the younger voters.
  • Young Americans talk a good game, but in the end never turn out to vote.
  • Literally LOL'd at the notion that Kid Rock is culturally relevant.

I'm truly shocked the hill hasn't covered the story this week of a 22 year old Harris supporter who purposely ran over an 80 year old man putting up Trump signs. Hancock Michigan.

I'd vote for her before voting for the orange conman.

Kamala was born the last year of baby boomer gen and the year before Gen X. She strattles the two generations so she can he included in Gen X. To me she is of my older kids generation and is a passing of the torch to GenX. So proud of her!

Viewing campaign speeches as empty promises is just healthy skepticism. Maybe there is hope for Gen Z.

Manufactured support/ mocking bird talking points in bound … at no point in history has she ever been popular… all of a sudden now she’s raking in cash and supposedly just having people line up behind her enthusiastically 😂… ridiculous
  • @YankeeSkeptic
Does Gen Z actually believe Harris in 2024 has the same political standing and abilities as Obama in 2008???
  • What poll is he talking about? Kamala leads 18-34 by 20%. What is his definition of young voters?

Is she talking about the illegal immigrants as voters to register? Of course she does. That’s why they’re here.

Don't vote based on emotion. Realistically look at the effects of policies. Which ones drive businesses away?

Wasn't there a ban on Tik Tok?
