RISE OF THE MASTERMINDS - Danganronpa animation

imagine having a class trial and everyone reveals themselves to be the mastermind and the awkward silence that follows

I really like how Mikan's needles missed Nagito on the dart board due to his talent

Something i noticed with Komaeda is that he dressed purely in white since it represents hope (and we all know how he feels about hope). Another thing is that he covers his left eye due to it representing despair, and only shows his right eye. A nice and clever detail! :D

Some great details my friends and I noticed: - The only two people to actually catch the hammer are Hajime and Junko, the two actual masterminds (Junko for DR1, Izuru for SDR2) - We can't see the right side of Fuyuhiko's face, likely because if he was the mastermind, he would still have Junko's eye implanted. -Kazuichi is piloting a Giant Monokuma, which is something he oversaw the construction of during the Tragedy. -There's blood all over the dinner table in front of Teruteru, because he was a cannibal during his Remnant of Despair days. -Ibuki is wearing her gas mask from her beta design. -Sonia is wearing her Remnant of Despair dress. -The Impostor was left as a gray man, as they have no real identity or appearance. -Chiaki, the only non-remnant, is on screen for the least amount of time. She's put in-between Nagito and Hajime, whose psyches were implied to have made the majority of Chiaki's AI. -Chiaki's part is transitioned to through Nagito's eye, where it then shows her being marked as guilty. She's hitting the button to vote for herself as well. -Nagito is behind a roulette wheel, which also has darts through it. Besides the obvious reference to luck, it's also a parallel to art from the comic, where he's in front of a dart board covered in darts and knives, him standing in the middle. Also, he's wearing gloves (for obvious reasons). I was crushed when this animation was taken down the first time, and absolutely elated when it was brought back up. It's absolutely fantastic, and the detail and hard work put into it is genuinely incredible. Edit: Another thing I just noticed upon rewatching: - The line "Hope and despair" is specifically spoken as soon as Hajime, the Ultimate Hope and Remnant of Despair, is on screen. - Hajime willingly lets go of the hammer, his hand gently lowering after hesitating. Maybe this represents his choice to be more than just Izuru Kamukura, or maybe it's specifically because Izuru put the junko AI into the system, effectively "passing the torch" of mastermind to her.

it would be nice to see an alternate version of danganronpa where junko was the protag and everyone else was the mastermind out to get her. it would be a supercool spinoff ngl

Something that I'd like to point out is during the credits scene (where all the pictures of the masterminds are shown), you can see a pink, jagged link being drawn across Sonia's neck. I believe this is a reference to the executions that occured in France when the common people cut off the heads of the French royal family. It's nothing important, but I feel like it's a cool detail.

I actually like these designs because they look more like Remnants of Despair than they do in the actual anime.

The part where Mikan throws darts at Nagito reminds me of that “Komaeda execution” where Nagito was spinning while darts try to hit him and they miss due to Nagito’s extreme luck.

Monokuma strait up just told everyone in private "You're the mastermind, don't die." The waited for the chaos to unfold.

Hajime: the mastermind is someone… Chiaki: it must be you, hajime! Hajime: Well, yes. But it’s also you! Chiaki: sigh yes, I suppose so. But… Sonia was also a mastermind! Sonia: Yes, that is true but… I’m not as evil as ibuki, who is also a mastermind! Ibuki: More evil!?! I may be a mastermind, but really??? Hyoko helped too! Hyoko: Yep! Me and that nasty pig barf were masterminds. Mikan: Don’t drag me into this! But it was also Teruteru. Teruteru: What?!? That’s not true at all! I cook up hope Mikan: trust me, he’s lying. Hyoko: btw, thanks for the help Mahiru! Mahiru: no problem :) Akane: FINALLYYYY!!! I waited forever for you to admit that Mahiru! Mahiru: but… aren’t you another mastermind? Akane: oh yeah… but what about gundum? Gundum: HAHAHA!!! IT’S TRUE! But I’m quite impressed with Pekoyama. Peko: thank you for the feed back. Must admit, you were quite good with fuyuhiko. Fuyuhiko: Me and him found a way to make the swords super durable. I say thanks to Nekomaru! Nekomaru: No problem! I had a despairful time :) Hajime: so, do we go after nagito and the imposter? Nagito: nah, I’m one of you Imposter: yeah, same Junko: dang it! I put all the masterminds in one game >:(

God I'm so glad you actually made interesting designs for each person rather than just "hurr durr Black and white motif" like every other person does. The animation and designs are genuinely impressive

i love how each character's cross in front of their portraits is a reference to their character somehow: mahiru is glass shattering like a picture breaking, hiyoko is hair sticks, ibuki is her lightning bolt, akane is bones like hunger/food, nekomaru is the blood that would come from his head after fighting, sonia is a line across her neck like a queen being beheaded, impostor is just a blank, shattered canvas, fuyuhiko and peko are sword slashes or scars, teruteru is his fork and knife, soda is his mechanic tools, gundham is claw marks, mikan is the first aid plus, nagito is chains referencing his time as Servant, chiaki is pixelated like a video game, and i'm not 100% sure on what hajime's is referencing but it could be the run-in izuru and nagito had with their guns, or the bullet in his head referencing the lobotomy.

Someone give this person the title of Ultimate Ultimate Animator

Something I really loved was how at the end, when all the names were shown, the X’s were related to their ultimates/something they identify with

The verse "Despite this, the line between Hope and Despair is so faded out" being played as Hajime appears is so genius.
