Fortnite Crossovers & Seasonal Synergy

I should make it clear that despite ragging on Khaby Lame a lot in this video, I don’t hate the man in the slightest. Hell, if I were in his shoes, I’d jump to have myself added to Fortnite, too. I just think Epic made a huge mistake including him in the battle pass, rather than just having him be an item shop skin.

Khaby Lame was basically stretched to fit the heist squad; in his NPC bio, they say that Khaby is here to simplify things and that you don’t need to go extreme lengths to pull of a heist (think of a way to get to the other side and Khaby points out that there’s a door) still feel that Khaby’s battle pass spot should’ve been replaced by a more logical collab tho

In my opinion, the biggest fumble was in Chapter 4 season 3, when, while yes, transformers made sense for the new movie, but not doing a Jurassic Park crossover was wild. I mean, they were literally already doing a universal property. The season was literally dinosaur and jungle themes, and the season released right before Jurassic Park’s 30th anniversary! A massive fumble in my eyes.

Oh, I think Chapter 5 season 1 is doing it justice? We got Solid Snake and TMNT, both collabs that work with fighting against organized crime. Peter Griffin being there is kinda weird but it's Family Guy, this is probably a cut-away gag. If the next season is Greek Gods and myths, a percy jackson collab could work. Even bring back Kratos in the item shop?

I was genuinely so confident that they would have a Cyberpunk Edgerunners collab during the Mega season considering they just had a Cd Project Red collab the season before and Edgerunners was still relatively new and popular. And I’m still waiting for it to this day as a collab

When it comes to any single collab I genuinely don’t think anything will ever be able to match the Spider-man collab from chapter 3 season 1. The skin itself is absolutely perfect. They didn’t add a bunch of pointless lines everywhere, they didn’t make it orange, and that is perfect. All three styles look like they were taken directly from the pages of the comics and I cannot praise them enough for how perfect they all look. But even more importantly is the web-slinging, which is also great. (Here’s what I wrote about them back when they were still in the game) I love how utterly unique this style of slinging is compared to basically any other game with web slinging in it. We always tend to talk about how awesome it would be to swing around in a city but nobody ever really takes about how dynamic web slinging would be in other location’s and I think it was an ingenious decision to show of the absolute max potential for slinging in other places that I really hope future spider man games try to dip more into. Another thing that makes Fortnite’s web-slinging so good is the fact that every single shot of the webbing is entirely up to the player which to my knowledge has never been done before, this makes every single moment using them feel drastically more impactful and makes it way more interesting than without it (imo) so now if you want to follow someone going in a car, while in any other game you would simply follow the car around the city, in Fortnite there a suddenly an infinite amount of different ways you could go after them, you could simply follow the car until it stops or you could go ahead and try to shoot one of the tires or you could connect yourself to the car, or even try to land on-top of the car, and that’s not even factoring in the dynamic environments that constantly shake up how you can get from point A to point B. due to all of this being in the player’s own hand (it at least for me) can lead to moments that genuinely feel better then some parts of ps4 spider man in terms of satisfaction.

my fav collab by far is deadpool during chapter 2 season 2. i love how they didnt just make him a skin, but he was involved with the story going on throughout the season. he was hiding out in the agency where you could visit him, use his computer and interact with the space he was in. then later he kicked meowscles out of his yacht which impacted the story as meowscles was now shadow and living at a box factory which would later be catty corner. he even hijacked the battle bus! you could argue his skin didnt match the espionage theme, but i think they encorporated him extremely well.

Personally, having a colab skin is always good because most battlepass skins are not it. But that’s my opinion

That’s the thing. At least the Attack On Titan collab makes sense. European map still in game and the theme of Japan. AOT worked with Mega. And the worst part about the Last Resort season is that Payday 3 came out the same time as this season.

I think an important thing to remember is that the item shop is NOT the battle pass The whole point of the item shop is to have rotating items that aren't tied to a battle pass or season So saying any item shop only skins should have "seasonal synergy" doesn't make a lot of sense

Im a newer player and skins like darth vader nader and rick sanchez beeing battlepass skins is such a shame. It sucks that newer players just cannot get these beloved characters in any way.

I think that to me indiana Jones and darth Vader make a bit of sense to me. Being that the theme of vibin is summer fun and relaxation. A big part a summer fun and relaxation is going to the movies. To see those movie blockbusters. And i feel like darth vader and indiana Jones represent that part of summer fun. The summer movie blockbuster that come during the summer. And also that both Star wars and Indiana jones movies have been summer blockbuster in history. So I feel like there inclusion makes sense in a way

I know why fortnite collabs don't synergise with the season's theme anymore. It's because they never did. I mean we got Wreck-It-Ralph collabd during a Halloween season (c1 s6) NFL collab during a winter themed season (c1 s7), Avengers collab during a pirate's themed season (c1 s8), John Wick, Stranger Things and Air Jordan collabs during a sci-fi season (c1 s9), Travis Scott during a spy themed season (c2 s2) and so on. Hell even the seaon you claim is "the good" isn't actually good, because c2 s5 was about hunters (I have no idea where you got warriors and survivours from. Every promotional piece of chapter 2 season 5 only mentioned hunters.), and the only 2 skins that fit that description are Mando and Predator, and eveyone else there doesn't make as much sense. The only collaborations that used to make sense with the theme were the battle pass collabs, and their case I agree, it would be nice if they synergised again. But outside of battle pass collabs never cared about the theme of the season and they will never care in the future. I mean, making every collab synergise with the season's theme is just too much work for no gain. It wouldn't make much diffrence if epic held the Jujutsu Kaisen license untill the season that fits it happened, or just released it now. Besides holding onto the license untill the season's theme fits it, could be pretty risky. What if by that time the hype around the license dies out? What if the owner of the license will get into controversy? What if the owner of the license changes their mind on collabs? What if the license will get into legal troubles? If epic releases collabs right after they're done, even if it doesn't fit the season, a lot of those problems could be solved by making the collab off sale and never releasing it again. It would be unfortunate, but epic would've already managed to get at least some money. But if epic holds onto the license untill the time is just right, and one of those problems happens, epic will have to delay the collab indefinitely or completely cancel it. So, in my opinion, it's probably better if epic doesn't wait untill collabs fit the theme. In that case a lot less cool stuff would be canceled.

Fortnite collabs never had synergy. They were all released at the perfect time. Like peter griffin doesn't fit the season theme, but he's fricking peter griffin, so nobody cares Collabs shouldn't synergies with season. They should be release whenever they want Original Fortnite skins should be done with the theme, not collabs

Vader and Indy in a Summer Fun themed season is like if Fortnite did a Sci-Fi Space themed season that’s like a mix between Chapter 1 Season 3 and Chapter 2 Season 7, and you’d except maybe Captain Kirk and RJ MacReady as the collab skins for the Battle pass, but it turns out that the collab skins are Makoto Nanaya and Jack Bauer

I was thinking the same thing about Ashoka with the heist season. At least these past years I've been playing the Fortnitemares collabs made sense with spooky Halloween times, like Ash in Chapter 3, and then with Jack, Alan Wake and Mikey Myers for Chapter 4. It's not much, but sometimes you gotta just pick your battles.

I agree with this so much. A strong battle pass theme can really make a season so much better. That's one of the reasons I love Ch2 S5 so much: all the collabs, even the ones in the item shop, fit the theme. These random collabs in battle passes can ruin their themes as it's basically whatever random media is coming out around the same time, with no thought put into it. I was never a fan of collabs in battle passes to begin with and believe all collabs should just be in the item shop, but if you're going to shove them in the battle pass, then at least make them make sense!

I remember while working 2 jobs in quarantine. I spent over 500 dollars during chapter 2 season 5-8 due to all the collabs. I loved each and every one of them and i still use them to this day. Granted i can actually play more because im only part time. But besides jujitsu kaisen, ninja turtles, eminem & invincible i havent spent money really since chapter 2. Battlepasses have been bought but i really regret not buying the one with indiana jones. But its okay, i have plenty. The collabs then were exciting and new. The story made it make sense, now it feels like a big ad. Sure it was all along. Although now its just throw in this here and this there. No rhyme or reason. I do wish we had the opportunity to use collab items such as deadpools dualies, stark rifle, all the marvel powers, mandalorians sniper, jujitsu kaisens mythics, spiderman gloves, and the countless pois they only added for a short while
