Low Thyroid symptoms can be common or uncommon. Most people know that low thyroid can lead to fatigue, weight gain, and constipation. Many people (and some doctors) have never heard of the uncommon signs and symptoms of low thyroid I talk about at the end of this video.

Don't let your hypothyroidism be missed or misdiagnosed because you and your doctor are not aware of the more uncommon symptoms of low thyroid. This video will help a lot; it might even help your friend.

  • This was a reminder to my own situation with a low functioning thyroid. When I was 40, I suffered an attack which I thought was a severe sore throat and didn't follow up on it right away with a doctor. Over a year later I was still dealing with minor sore throat and ear issues and finally got it checked out. In the meantime the symptoms of low thyroid (feeling cold, achy, depression) also appeared but I failed to recognize them. Long story short, I got medical help and was put on thyroxin. In my mid forties I went to a nutritional consultant where I was advised to immediately remove processed foods, sugar, wheat and gluten rich grains and as much dairy from my diet as possible (excepting fermented products like yogurt). Have pretty much followed as closely as possible to this regimen although I do treat myself to ice cream or a piece of cake for special occasions. And here are the results -- my thyroid came back to more normal function so I could quit taking the thyroxin. Which proves to me that food can play a large role in our well-being. In my 70's now and my last blood test showed even higher thyroid function than before. I wish I could have had access to your excellent videos when I was younger, but thankfully you are helping many others now.

When you have so many of these symptoms and your doctor says “you’re just depressed” 😕

After years of doctors telling me there is nothing wrong with me, to learn to “deal with the aches and pains”, not knowing why I get daily headaches and memory loss, or why I’m tired all the time, I’ve finally been diagnosed with an extremely under-active thyroid. How it went unnoticed for so long, I have no idea. But I’ve experienced so many of these symptoms. My new doctor kept telling me “you like a healthy person” & then noticed a goiter. I’m just happy I’m finally being treated so I can start to feel like myself again.

I tried for years to convince my sister to have her thyroid checked. She wouldn't listen. Finally she broke down when she was losing her hair so badly she did. Sure enough low thyroid.
  • Just got my period back after 151 days, finally my Dr did a full panel, and been on T3 medication for 3 weeks

Was diagnosed with hypothyroidism last week...was like a huge check list when I looked up the symptoms! I believe I've been suffering a LONG time and I've been relentlessly unkind to myself for years as well as suffering at the hands of comments from 'loved ones' in regards to some of the less common symptoms.

Wrt the uncommon symptoms, many mimic perimenopause. If you're 45 and have these symptoms, go see your gynecologist. I thought for years that my endocrinologist was undertreating me and once I realized it was perimenopause and got hrt, I feel like myself again. I apologized to my endocrinologist. I suffered needlessly for years. Actually thought I had early onset dementia.

I have been dealing with Hashimoto's/hypothyroidism for 11 years and just wanted to add some more symptoms to the list that I've noticed. They are nausea, irritability, orange palms and swollen and painful lymph nodes around the neck. I have also been dealing with histamine intolerance which I've read could be associated with Hashimoto's. Just my 2 cents there 😄
  • You give the best information!! I really wish doctors were more open to listening to their patients. I think as soon as I say “I watch a doctor on the internet and something he described sounds just like what I’m experiencing” my doctor shuts down and dismisses what I say after that.
  • @amommamust
Thanks for delving into this, look forward to the promised video!
  • I wish you would write a comprehensive book of test to ask for from our docs, what they are for, and optimal ranges. I would be first in line for a copy. Thanks for all the great info!
  • I have a low thyroid and my doctor said it was within the normal range. Nope, I started taking vitamins for thyroid health!
  • Thankyou, Thankyou, Thankyou for this video!!!! Awaiting the second part to this with great interest 😊😊 most grateful.
