It's very upsetting, especially since it looks like it used to be a quality school with a gym, music room with band uniforms, a pool...
  • I hated school until I saw this. This is so depressing. I want to go to Detroit and give the kids books.

Update: this went viral and they were funded half a million dollars from Ellen DeGeneres to fix the gym, play ground, hallway, and update classrooms

I grew up in Clarkson, Michigan. These kids have no books, while my school is trying to figure out where we’re going to move the tennis court. Sad.

These children don't even know their education is being stripped away...

My dad grew up in Detroit, and so we recently looked at the rating of his Highschool, and it was a 1/10

I volunteered in one of these types of schools in Detroit and I have to say those kids are the most gracious, bright, loving, and amazing kids I’ve ever met. My heart breaks thinking about when they go home and don’t have the right necessities such as food to eat.

I can't understand why we are giving out foreign aid to other countries when we have our own cities that are crumbling apart

At least they have a counsellor. My school in Chicago didn't. Their nurse's office wouldn't even give me daily lunchtime medicine, because they were so understaffed. I had two allergic reactions as a result of not receiving that medicine. The worst thing was, a girl in my school got an allergic reaction and died in an ambulance because her Epi pen wasn't in school, and they wouldn't give her someone else's in the ambulance. They still refused to give me lunchtime medicine. My second reaction occurred then. At the end of the year, we moved. Those kids have it bad, but at least they aren't dying from a lack of medical care in schools. My school was rated as above average in Illinois.

I live in a suburb only a few miles away from out Detroit. In our schools, they literally throw away money. At my high school they’re literally moving the tennis courts from one section of the school to another. They’re basically one chromebook for every kid in our grade. It makes to sad to see this inequality of wealth where I live.
  • I just want to say that these teachers and parents deserve respect for encouraging students and genuinely caring for them beyond what is required. Respect!

If this isn't proof that some schools need more funding, I don't know what is.
  • This makes me see how privileged I am. I’m so grateful. I hope this school gets fixed soon and everyone can be happy :D
  • @SatanShootz
They all look like a bunch of bright kids. I hope there can be a solution found soon.

This literally brought me to tears. No child deserves this!!
