  • I started playing back in 1987 solo. My friend in the Marines was my DM and that's how I learned before we got a group together.

There’s a book that also has this suggestion where you can use the dice to answer yes/no/maybe questions, as well as other things.

It is vital to have an oracle so you aren't making judgment calls on your own character. If you haven't run into Mythic yet, it's not too hard to let the dice do the work. My method involves rolling 3 d20, a white one, a black one, and a grey one (any three colors will do). In any situation, the white die stands for triumph, the black die is entropy, and the grey die is for the world. Interpreting the results can be hard at first, but you can easily see what was good for the character might not be good for the world,

I do love the idea of being the character of a sort of prologue to a future group session, where everything you wrote in your journal, whether it be scouting a treasure location or just discovered wilderness in general may serve useful with a few new challenges stemming from the events of the solo game

    Basically creative mode.
  • I like to make random characters and have them fight each other in a battle royale , I get to learn different classes and stuff like while learning the best ways to go about killing something lol it’s fun and sometimes I get to play at work too .

I started playing in the 80's, still have the same group I've played with (excluding one who recently passed) and own everything one could ever need to run any campaign. Rule 1 of D&D is have fun. Sadly there are so many players these days who have been playing 5,10 yrs who want to ostracize newcomers and exclude them from campaigns because they don't know how to play, etc. It's sad, it's about having fun and anyone should be honored to assist in newcomers in their exploration of D&D.
