True Crime is a part of everyday media that the TV series, specials, films, and documentaries all about it have been around forever. But actually, that's not the case. The format we now see, wasn’t the norm at all in the 80s. A weekly series built around cases and interviews with the people who were a part of them, re-enacting the crimes…had never been done before.

But then one day a series came along that would not only showcase True Crime but would also give us ghosts, UFOs, and all points in between. Not only that, but the theme song would cause PTSD in most kids my age who had the fortune or misfortune to hear it. That series is Unsolved Mysteries, a series so popular that it changed not only pop culture but the way investigations within law enforcement were conducted.

Today on Gone But Not Forgotten, we’re delving into the question of what happened to Unsolved Mysteries.

That opening creeped the hell out of me when I was a kid.
  • @jacobwood1914
Nothing like Robert Stack’s voice saying “UPDATE”

"Join me. Perhaps YOU may be able to help solve a mystery."

I still love watching reruns of Unsolved Mysteries… also, Robert Stack WAS Unsolved Mysteries.
  • Robert Stack and John Walsh are technically the granddaddy of True Crimes Series of the 80s and i do agree that the UM Theme was bone chilling until the mid 90s
  • This show never gets old.

I'm 31 and I can still remember laying in bed hearing this theme music on Sunday night. What a way to fall asleep😅😅

Robert Stack voice is Imprinted in my brain for the rest of my life and so is James Earl Jones...

The intro and Robert Stack's narration were awesome. The cases were great.

It was a family event every time Unsolved Mysteries and Rescue 911 came on TV LOL

When I was a kid, my sister and I flipped a coin on which TV show to watch: "Rescue 911" or "Unsolved Mysteries", because we only had 1 TV and both were on in the same time slot. I don't remember who won, but these shows were such fond memories in my childhood. ❤

Ok,so it wasn’t just me who loved this show but was also scared of it?
  • My ring tone is the "Unsolved Mysteries" theme. It's eerie to hear, if I leave my phone in a different room, especially at night.

Unsolved Mysteries is not just a true crime show. They also talked about ghosts, UFOs, the afterlife, people taking to the dead, animals saving people's life and other unexplained things

Intro music and Robert Stack’s voice still get me looking over my shoulder.

How many 40 - 50 year olds in the comments!!!
  • @davinp
Robert Stack hosted Unsolved Mysteries through 2002. The show ended in 2002 after Robert Stack became ill. He died in 2003 from heart failure

The theme scared the hell out of me. It also scares my kids. Also there is a wiki that tells you if the case was solved.
