These videos are meant to break down the songwriting process into easy to use tips, techniques, and tools that spark creativity and help you apply them like the pros. I do my best to make videos that share the 'secrets' of writing great songs without holding anything back.

My main focus with this channel is to pass on the tools of the trade that I have learned and found to make a big difference to my creative flow and songwriting. There is an old saying that goes "everybody has one great song in them", I hope to show you that once you know what makes a song great, you can apply it to all the songs you write. Start from the heart, follow your gut, and revise with your mind.

  • I thought this was a stand-up comedian at first and was just thinking, “Damn, this guy is not landing.”
  • @williamk6605
What he is saying is, use the craft to elevate your creativity. But do not let the “rules/theory” confine you.
  • @VocalEdgeTV
I forgot that he was actually highly intelligent and a great teacher.
  • @xs10tl1
This is the best explanation on why you need to know music theory.
  • @Demitrival
    Linking songwriting knowledge to emotion.
  • @Whatever-ew4ti
I watched the whole talk and I thought it was quite good, he had more to say about the idea of info vs inspiration, which was quite appropriate and relatable for Berklee students who were absorbing tons of knowledge from school. This comment section is hating for no reason tho
  • @Viper-dz2kw
Realizing there’s more to melody then just singing the changes was a big eye opener for me tbh
  • I think that in the process of getting "better", we forgot the "why" or our reason/motive for wanting to start writing songs in the first place. We traded "heart" and "self-expression" for craft and fell into the trap of the mundane world. We became so obsessed with craft and with getting results, that we slowly lost our bond/connection to the "heart" and "self-expression" without even realising it. And I think this is sad, because I bet most of us started writing songs in the first place, because we just wanted to express ourselves. Yeah, I guess that's it. That's the reason most of us wanted to start writing songs in the first place. Yeah, I hope this helps someone out there. Make sure to remember the reason that made you want to start writing songs in the first place.
  • That's what Jacob Collier does, he creates music from a very logical and mathematic standpoint. Amazing musician but imo he lacks a lot of natural feel and emotion in his songwriting.
  • @LuciensMusic
It takes a head and heart to write great songs,,I feel like Im more heart,,so maybe a cowriter with theory etc is what I need to help me elevate my writing
