Why Is 'The Mercedes CLR GTR' Everywhere?

The car "Mercedes CLR GTR" doesn't actually exist. It is either the Mercedes CLR or the Mercedes CLK GTR which are similar but also quite different. The Mercedes CLR was a race car that Mercedes developed for the 1999 24 Hours of Le Mans, one of the three jewels of motorsport in the Triple Crown. They made the car have extreme overhangs to be faster in a straight line I believe. This radical design philosophy caused the cars to lift up and fly on the hill on the long straight of the track. After the incidents in the race, Mercedes has never returned to the race, the specific racing class was stopped and had the track reprofiled to prevent take off again. The CLK GTR was a very successful race car winning 8 out of the 13 races it competed in. No one was harmed in the accidents. Link to the accident, there are some good explainers out there. The Nissan PENNZOIL Nismo GT-R '99 (known in Gran Turismo 7 as Nissan GT-R GT500 '99) is a race car produced by Nissan. It first appeared in Gran Turismo 2 and has been featured in all subsequent mainline games except Gran Turismo Sport.
