The B52 Stratofortress 'Junkyard Dog' arrived at RAF Fairford for the Royal International Tattoo (RIAT) on Wednesday, July 17th, under the callsign 'Skull 20'. It remained at the standby bomber airfield to conduct a flypast of the Farnborough International Air Show on Wednesday, July 24th.
Another B52 with the nickname 'Free Bird' also participated in a flypast at Farnborough on Friday, July 26th. That B52 arrived on Tuesday, July 23rd under the callsign 'Skull 21'. Both travelled from Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana, USA, before returning on Friday.

A U2 Dragon Lady departed on the same day, presumably back to it's homebase at Beele Air Force Base in California. This U2 was already operating out of RAF Fairford before displaying at RIAT. Another U2 arrived to take it's place a few days later (also seen in this video).

wow amazing! I didn't think the U2 Spy Plane was still operational!?
-
Two iconic warplanes from the height of the Cold War. 4:05

It was lovely to have both the U2 and B52 aircraft visits. Long may they have unlimited visits to the UK and Europe. Vladimir Putin needs to understand that NATO and all individual countries will support Ukraine and Europe and, if necessary, we American, British, and Canadian (ABC) can deploy to protect these countries borders. Cold War defence can be quickly reinstalled.

The take off/climb on that thing is quite surprising to me. I figured itd need a little more speed but with them gian wings or whatever yoi call em it gets a lot of lift really fast

Why do the Brits use the lead and chase vehicles after take off's and landings?? Are they afraid the pilots will get lost on the tarmac?
-
The lead and chase vehicles are crewed by USAF personnel as Fairford is a USAF base,
