Huge Norfolk Southern Train Derailment Aftermath From Above!

Published 2021-01-27
On January 25th, 2021, Norfolk Southern mixed freight train 16T came off the rails between Charles Town, WV and Berryville, VA on the Norfolk Southern H line between Hagerstown, MD and Front Royal, VA.

Also, I forgot to mention that Cranemasters was also on the scene. Props to all of them for keeping America's freight moving.

Next year there will trains full of tank cars hauling oil.

Awesome shots! As a farm owner, I wonder what kind of payments Norfolk Southern gave to the land owner. The soil is not only contaminated by the spill but it is also compacted by the huge and heavy equipment driving all over it. Soil compaction is almost as bad as the contamination. We only use treaded machines on our fields.

Let's hear it for the infrastructure guys, who have to go out in any weather and do what it takes to keep the country moving!
  • I’ve seen their work firsthand - 16 cars scattered over a quarter mile of double track on the Pocahontas division , 20 degrees outside - they put an army to work , threw up lights and fired up the torches ; the right of way was cleared , torn up track replaced and put back in operation in less than two days !!
  • Great video! Glad no one was hurt. 🤗 thanks for sharing. 👍

aaaaactually. too much salt in the ground stops plants from being able to grow. This fact was used to turn arrable land into wasteland to deny it to the enemy in medievil times. It can take generations for the land to recover. It does. but it takes a LONG time. Though I'm sure it's something that is fixable in the modern day

Looks like a bunch of Cranemasters iron there too.
  • Those workers probably thought this reconstruction was a piece of cake. Terrain was level, relatively accessible and didn’t require equipment to cut their way into the site. It wasn’t on a cliff, mountainside, riverside or close to a major traffic artery. Looks like the weather wasn’t too terrible, either. A major task any way you slice it,though. I’m merely trying to put o positive spin on things. Great job by any stretch. Thanks for the awesome footage and for taking the time to go out of your way to bring it to us. Best.

Lets not build pipelines, Lets ship oil by rail instead! Every time I see one of these derailment videos, that's the first thing that comes to mind.... I realize oil wasn't the product scattered on the ground in this video but it could have been! Usually an oil derailment doesn't just pollute the ground but the air as well (as the oil burns)
  • Same company had a derailment between Luray and front royal va in Aug or Sept and 4 different containers still laying beside the track..A tanker, scap car and box car. They have a derailment every other month just about..
  • Thank goodness for this drone technology. 20 years ago we could only hear about what happened. Drones allow us to see what's happening beyond the yellow tape.
