Well hey there kids, I finally did it, mustered up the will to talk about the most disappointing game experience I ever had. Remember, this is a review of Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night for the Nintendo Switch, not my take on the game on a multiplatform perspective. I am aware there are better versions of this game and may review them at another time.
Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is a Metroidvania type video game developed by ArtPlay and published by 505 Games. The game's development was led by former Castlevania series producer Koji Igarashi, and is considered a spiritual successor to the series. The game is the second in the Bloodstained series. Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night was released for Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in June 2019, and for iOS and Android in December 2020.

Igarashi conceived the game after his departure from Konami in 2014, prompted by numerous fan requests for him to make another Metroidvania-type game. He used the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter to demonstrate to potential funding agencies of the demand for the game in 2015, which successfully raised more than US$5.5 million from backers, making it one of the most funded video game campaigns on the platform. Bloodstained received generally positive reviews. A retro-style companion game, Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon, was developed by Inti Creates and released in May 2018. It was followed by a sequel in 2020, Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 2.

Years ago I would've played this to 100% no question, but somehow I got stuck at a certain point and after hours of backtracking cannot progress, I can't even remember something from the story to google! Loved playing it, but I wasn't compelled to keep trying like with SOTN or the handheld Castlevania's.
  • It's s shame that there's no way to play SOTN on Switch. I have cleared that game like 20 times and I also played the beautiful DS entries because of it. Konami must be allergic to money because I would buy a collection of said games in an instant, same with Metal Gear. The worst part is that even if they release a new game of any of those franchises there's a good chance they'll fuck it up. Great video by the way, I was suspecting something like this already.

Eh I’ve just seen endless pixel art on the switch that maybe my standards have been lowered because this looks gorgeous by comparison

My favorite game of all time is also Symphony and Castlevania meant a lot to me. I picked this up on my Switch day 1. Needless to say, I wanted to blow my fucking brains out.

I’ve yet to play this as I’m terrible at Metroidvania games A buddy of mine backed this game, he went for the 400 dollar version, and he never stops talking about this game. Looks rad , I may have to give it a looksie

They have been patching this game out a lot I’ve also seen videos of some of the patches and it all looks pretty good.

I have a love hate relationship with this game. I bought it for the switch when it came out on a whim knowing nothing about it and i was pleasantly surprised. It wasn't until a few days later when i looked up reviews for it that i learned of the history of the developer and the sad fact that i had purchased the inferior switch version. Ever since then its been a frustrating experience. At least on the switch port, something just feels missing. The controls just feel awful. It feels like im fighting miri more than the enemies.

The mic quality could be improved, but the review was great. One of the few that fully acknowledge the horrible art direction, terrible models, etc. It looks nicer and runs better on PC or whatever, but the art DESIGN is still terrible. That really sucks, because I love his Castlevania games.

It’s not a sin to dream for a SOTN remake or SOTN 2.. right?
  • @yezzir8929
Bro back when I played it on switch it had tremendous slow down as well so it was almost unplayable!
  • This review was hilarious. I'm not sure if you were intending to be funny, but it was!! lol. Especially 9:22 onwards. Hilarious, but sad cause I wanted this game!! But I'll hold off. Looks so shitty.

Thinking about buying it for the switch just wondering how it looks today

This game is no sotn, but its still a rock solid first attempt out on his own. My opinion anyway.
