Let's talk about electrolytes—what they are and why you need them.

Electrolytes are electrically charged minerals, such as:
• Potassium
• Magnesium
• Sodium
• Chloride
• Calcium

Top causes of an electrolyte deficiency:
• Fasting
• The keto diet
• Sweating
• Vomiting
• Diarrhea
• Diuretics
• A high-carb diet

Electrolytes power the nervous system, muscles, and cells. They also control fluid balance within the cells and outside of the cells.

Warning signs of an electrolyte deficiency:
1. Arrhythmias or heart palpitations
2. Fatigue or weakness
3. Dizziness and dehydration
4. High pulse rate
5. Muscle twitching, spasms, or cramps
6. Constipation
7. Headaches and brain swelling
8. Shock
9. Nausea or keto flu
10. Decreased blood clotting

A few years ago my nephew would only drink / hydrate with a sugary drink here in the UK called Vimto. He had to be treated by the dentist and had 7 amalgam fillings all in one go. It was a bad experience for him. He was told to stop drinking Vimto. In fact, unbeknownst to us he hardly drank anything at all. We noticed his eyes looked dark and sunken and thought it might be a iron deficiency. Anyway, things got worse . He starting having fits and was eventually diagnosed with epilepsy. He went to see numerous specialists who put him on anti fitting medication. Despite this he still has epileptic episodes. I did a little research and found that years of lack of hydration can lead to low electrolytes. Low electrolytes is linked to Epilepsy. I encouraged him to drink more and once a day dissolve an electrolyte tablet in a glass of water. So far so good. To date no epileptic episodes.

And don't expect doctors to catch this issue. Was sent to cardiologists, neurologists, etc and guess who figured out that my potassium was deficient? ME! From researching on Google! My potassium serum test was "normal" so they never even considered it as the cause of my chest pains, heart palpitations, leg cramps, etc. All I needed was more potassium! YEARS of my life miserable bc I needed to stop drinking plain water and add more potassium!

Ok it has to be said. This is bloody good. Dr Berg - nobody comes close to his ability to explain health issues in a simple, concise way. He's a fantastic communicator.

For the last two years I was partially bedridden. Until I recently found out I was deficient in electrolytes. After I gave my body electrolytes, all of my symptoms vanished. If I would've known earlier. Thank you for educating the people. You are a good person. God bless you.
  • I kept experiencing painful leg and foot cramps while sleeping. I just thought I'm not drinking enough water. After I saw your video on electrolytes, I bought some powder to add to my water. It helps hydrate me and I don't have muscle cramps anymore.
  • I truly wish this man were my primary care dr. Nobody else explains things the way this man does.
  • As a UPS driver, I always knew I was getting overheated when I got a headache and became fatigued. Little did I know how much salt I was lacking... I usually am cautious about salt because of the health effects, but never would've thought I was deficient in it, thank you Dr. Berg!
  • I can always tell I'm low on electrolytes, I feel anxious but it's my heart rate going nuts. I will be very fatigued and feel all around terrible. I get more potassium into me and I feel fine after that. I'm glad I didn't reply on doctors to figure that out. Years ago I felt terrible and went to the doctor, he prescribed Zoloft... I was mal-nusrished, sleep deprived and low on electrolytes. Got off of the Zoloft which gave me terrible insomnia got proper sleep, ate properly and got electrolytes and I was a whole new me.
  • You’ve just solved my entire problem of fatigue, palpitations, constipation, headaches, muscle twitching, the lot! Thank you so so much. I’m a metastatic breast cancer patient and have been struggling for 6 years with the disease and side effects. I’m on a lot of medications and no one has ever addressed an electrolyte deficiency. Thank you again, I’m going to try them straight away.

Years ago I was an apprentice at a power generation facility…I was in shock (hahaha 😅) when I found out electrical motors can hang in pure distilled water! This was a brilliant demonstration of how the human body needs/uses electrolytes for its electrical impulses!
  • I was in my mid 40s and had health issues for YEARS before I finally realized a lot of the issue was I was dehydrated w/ low electrolytes. I’m not an athlete, but maintain my weight. I don’t sweat a lot. I just wasn’t someone who you’d think would be dehydrated. I had headaches, dizziness, muscle weakness, heart palpitations, etc. I actually did two things everybody says NOT to do, and it helped immensely. I increased my intake of red meat and salt. It’s like my body NEEDS more salt… Most days I also drink a (low sugar) electrolyte pack w/ water. It’s helped a ton. I also think this is all related to autoimmune disease, which I also have. Anyway, great video!
  • Thank you for explaining how the lack of electrolytes can wreak havoc in our bodies. I was having crazy muscle spasms while sleeping. My jaw would chatter and my body would jump whenever I would try to fall asleep. My legs started to twitch and jump and I was panicking at night before trying to sleep because I knew what was in store for me. Out of desperation I went to a neurologist who ordered an MRI and never once mentioned anything about electrolytes. I started researching on YouTube and read about magnesium deficiency symptoms which really resonated with me so I added magnesium Malate and the cramps and spasms subsided. I was still experiencing my teeth chattering whenever I woke up so I started my YouTube research again which led me to electrolytes. Thank God! It’s been smooth sailing since then!😊

My five-year-old LOVES your experiment Dr. Berg. She keeps rewinding it over and over to watch the lightbulb turn on. You always make things so easy to understand. Thank you for this demonstration! 👍🏽💥🌟👍🏽💥🌟👍🏽💥🌟

As an old Navy electronics technician, I absolutely love the electrical experiment demonstration! 😄 The information in this video is more valuable than The Golden Wedge of Ophir! Thanks Dr. Berg for this fantastic video!
  • I had two parathyroids removed in 2020 and have had issues with electrolyte balance ever since. After doing a lot of my own investigating, I came to the conclusion keto and fasting are not going to be good for me. You basically said everything I was thinking. Thank you so much for this. I’m glad to have my suspicions confirmed.

I once was super hungover and tanked 40 oz of water upon waking. I threw up and then started feeling like I was seizing. Couldn’t open my eyes, muscle spasms and cramping, rapid heart rate and pressure in my head. I had a hard time staying conscious. Super scary. I told my friend to call 911, but she insisted on buying me pedialyte and coconut water. I chugged the pedialyte half an hour later and was immediately better. Wish I had known this stuff then.

  • Potassium changed my life. I used to get debilitating dizzy/vertigo periodically for decades and would fix it by drinking tons of Electrolyte water and reducing my salt intake to rebalance things. This worked until one night it didn't. My heart rate was way too slow, I was too weak to get out of bed, I thought I may actually be dying and almost went to the ER. My husband realized my Electrolyte water contained little to no potassium. So he told me to resume normal sodium levels and gave me coconut water to drink for the next few days which has lots of potassium. And it fixed me right up!! So now we take potassium on a regular basis and keep our salt levels normal and we're good.
