Massive thanks to FeReinsm, PanzerMan, Deepseat, Munancho Inc, AlwaysAFK as well as the supportive community in my discord group for providing critical research aid for this video and of course, thank you for being here and watching! ____Corrections____ 3:18: These are actually AN-M8 smoke grenades, not M18 smoke grenades. 7:09: The picture on the right is not a PPSh-41 but of another variant. 6:42: The term ''magazine clip'' is not accurate as magazines and clips are not the same thing. 10:15: The Fw 200 was actually used as a transport aircraft, notably flying supplies into Stalingrad. However we still feel that the more common HE 111 would be a better overall choice as we only see the Fw 200 in game. 23:07: Just like the Thompson, the Bren also has a bolt hold open feature meaning that only the magazines have to be swapped for firing to continue and no charging of the weapon is necessary. ____Extra Inaccuracies____ 1:36: The Mosin Nagant in game appears to be modeled on the M38 Carbine version which were primarily given to gun-crews and non front-line combatants, it should be the standard issue M91/30 Mosin Nagant instead. 1:50: Soldiers in WW2 were trained to hold pistols with one hand. The teacup pose being used here in the game was not recommended. 4:06: All of the half-tracks in the game also have yellow triangles on their roofs which were only put on convoy-leading vehicles meaning the vast majority of them should not have this marking. 4:38: The half track we put the TNT onto is a Wurfrahmen 40 which the Red Army soldiers misidentify as a Panzerwerfer 42 during the sequence. 4:56: ''Solechnaya Street'' is a typo, it should be ''Solnechnaya Street'' which means ''Sunny Street'' and was renamed to ''13th Guards Rifle Division Street'' after the war. 23:36: Additionally, the Panzer II had a 20mm kwk or kwk 38 (depending on the model) cannon that had 10-round magazines which in-game fires like a normal tank cannon of a bigger caliber. 31:58: Throughout the entire US campaign, Sgt Randell wears his assault vest even though most soldiers got rid of it ASAP and there is no evidence of anyone wearing them after June 1944. If any moders wish to help quicken the release of the CoD 2 historical Rework Mod by helping import models then please contact the mod creator, PanzerMan via these following socials: - PanzerMans Steam: steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198820967791 - PanzerMans ModDB: www.moddb.com/members/panzer-man1992

What I like about Cod 1-3 and WAW is the fact that despite the historical inaccuracies (mostly due to the studio's limited budget, technology graphics and resources at the time to develop said games), it still respected the time period it was portraying, and it remained authentic (especially WAW).
  • @deixos2224
i have a theory for the inaccuracies that start in 5:20, maybe 20 years after the war ended Vasili is looking though his old war stuff? and everytime a mission starts he's just remisnicing his old memories, he never dies in game anyways.
  • @brynntall6811
I would argue that the way vasili holds the mp40 can be attributed to him not having had training with it
  • @NutMeister1
The loading screens with the journals may have some anachronistic items in the background, but i always imagined it was because the protagonist is looking back at their own journal of the war many years later, thus having all of the relics and trophies in the background. Fair point anyway though and good video!
  • @kimtongun3663
It's kinda funny seeing a video about the historical inaccuracies of COD 2 while claiming that World of Tanks is historically accurate
  • @PANCAKEMINEZZ
Dude, I wish you'd drop this CinemaSins method of doing inaccuracies. Inaccuracies shouldn't be deducted for doing something right or nichely interesting but instead just tracked separately. And pointing out clear glitches or an oversight due to gameplay (or God forbid a joke) shouldn't be counted towards inaccuracies either.
  • @nikik5567
So I just wanna say, that at least for the American levels, they did actually have a ranger from the period consulting on the game. Which may be why it has less in accuracies than the other levels? Also some are just asset reusing, which I can’t really count against them at this point in the franchise.
  • @Nathan_Affronti
History is so damn fascinating, please keep making these episodes they're awesome
  • As a change of pace: perhaps you should look at every historical inaccuracy in Battlefield 1. Especially since that game shares a lot of similarities with COD WAW in that while it does contain a fair amount of historical inaccuracies, it makes up for it by giving a very faithful and authentic portrayal of WW1.

32:44, That phrase, "Retreat? We're Advancing In Another Direction", is similar to General Oliver P. Smith's quote during the Battle of Chosin Reservoir during Korean War in 1950, “Retreat, hell! We're not retreating, we're just advancing in a different direction.”
  • @JaelaOrdo
As a history teacher and gamer who recently found your channel I want to say thank you for making these videos, subscribed after watching the World At War one.
  • @EuphoricAngel
27:04 I believe this is because the game was made during the time when 4:3 TVs were much more common so hiding this animation made sense for its time. While 16:9 TVs were around, they weren't as common. Besides this, this was a great video for my first ever CoD game!
  • @ZeFluffyKnight
It's kinda funny how many of these can just boil down to resource and engine limitations of the time. Then how depressing it is when you look at the later games that don't have these limitations and all info they need can be instantly obtained.
  • @Eric-vs2he
Honestly for the M1 Garand and the M1 Carbine's rear sight being larger than usual is honestly better for gameplay, because it makes it easier to aim
  • @AshlandMan
I think Call of Duty 2: Big Red One might have shown the most respect to history. Besides the Germans you also fight Italians and Vichy French.
  • 6:48 debatable! Many guns from the ww2 era already had feeding problems and mulfunctions due to the magazine: holding the magazine in such way has been shown to not only being fairly common, but also suggested, as it would actually fix some of the feeding problems.
  • @hgarr
I think the Sten gun's 'reloading same magazine' issue is probably because you're playing in widescreen. In 2005, most people would have still had good old 4:3 CRT TVs, and the magazine would have gone completely off screen.
